John A Stuart Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 Hi All, Not really interested in gunto so, I have no references relating to such, but, does anyone recognise this stamp? No on-line data for it. Thanks, John Quote

John A Stuart Posted March 11, 2008 Author Report Posted March 11, 2008 Sorry Stephen, I don't get it. I'm above the tree line. What do you mean? John Quote

John A Stuart Posted March 16, 2008 Author Report Posted March 16, 2008 Here is a different look. John Quote
Nobody Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 I think that it might be better to see if the sword is a real Gunto first. Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 16, 2008 Author Report Posted March 16, 2008 Thanks, The request is in, on another board. If a pic is posted there I will include it. John Quote
Stephen Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 funny how ones eyes work, i see the white space raised and what you show recessed. Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 16, 2008 Author Report Posted March 16, 2008 I do not know either, Stephen, how the fellow has produced the second pic. It seems a negative, sort of, of the first doesn't it? John Quote

Brian Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Yeah guys, it's not that complicated He just erased the background to show the actual stamped part that is indented. I have a feeling that once we see it on an entire nakago in context, and take away the possibility of an uneven stamp, we are just going to find it is a common arsenal stamp like the nagoya one or similar. John A Stuart Posted March 17, 2008 Author Report Posted March 17, 2008 Well Guys finally saw the pics of this sword. A lot of people have looked for a stamp for a Chinese gunto. No wonder no record of this stamp. Damn John Quote
Brian Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 Moriyama-san can tell a fake sword from a 3cmx3cm nakago sample? :D :D :D Good call Koichi! Well done. Brian Quote
