translation help, please....

Who can tell me something about the smith (any information is appreciated) and who can translate the surrender tag for me...?

I moved this to the new Translation section, you may not have seen its arrival. Smith is Yoshifusa, you should be able to do the date if you have a Yumoto book...give it a try.

The tag is not too difficult either. It's just the name and address of the wartime owner. Dunno what the 1500 refers to, though.

There was more than one Yoshifusa working in Seki during WW2.

Probably a Showato, but you will have to check out the blade to confirm this.

福井県 Fukui Ken (Prefecture), 三方郡 Mikata (?) Gun (County), 南西郷村 Nansei Go Son (village), 郷市 Kyoichi/Goichi ? and the name is 楠 Kusunoki 清 Kiyo/Kiyoshi (?)

*Without knowing the actual place names in Fukui Prefecture it's hard to guess the local readings. The Kanji on their own are fine as long as no-one tries to pronounce them!!! :lol:

So my translation would be, April 1945?

 

 

If so, then in 1944 Yoshifusa is one of the listed 209 smiths registered officially as sword smith in Seki. (See page 212 of Modern Japanese Swords and Swordsmiths. From 1868 to the Present)

 

Am I close??
