Timur Posted October 16, 2016 Report Posted October 16, 2016 Hi, could you please help me with mei translation of this tsuba? Quote
SteveM Posted October 16, 2016 Report Posted October 16, 2016 Mei is 祥楽齊 勝貞 Shōrakusai Katsusada. To the left of the nakago ana is 寫 百鬼夜行之圖 Utsushi Hyakki yagyō no zu Copied from the Hyakki yagyō (or yakō) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyakki_Yagy%C5%8D 5 Quote
Timur Posted October 17, 2016 Author Report Posted October 17, 2016 Thank you Steve! The attribution is still a tough task though. Heinz Index has for masters with the name Katsusada, but none of them is Shorakusai or close by description. May be the seal could help? The second kanji looks like 景 Kage/Kei for me. Quote
Shugyosha Posted October 17, 2016 Report Posted October 17, 2016 The first kanji in the seal looks like 軍 but it doesn't look like this in Markus Sesko's book on Identifying Seal Script... Quote
Timur Posted October 17, 2016 Author Report Posted October 17, 2016 This is gendai, yes? John Hm... My thought always was it's Meiji. Now I am not sure, John. Quote
Timur Posted October 17, 2016 Author Report Posted October 17, 2016 The first kanji in the seal looks like 軍 but it doesn't look like this in Markus Sesko's book on Identifying Seal Script... Alas. I checked this source - https://www.is-hanko.co.jp/shachi/tensho_check.html and it gives for 軍 Quote
