Mark C Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Hi All, Pictured is a little Tanto tsuba that I purchased today, its not in the best of condition but I liked it It seems to have been repaired, Has anyone seen anything like this before Many thanks in advance. Regards Mark C Quote
John A Stuart Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Hi Mark, I like it as well. It has a common kiku form. The crests are Tokugawa and the Emperors in combination, pro-Bakufu. Showing the relationship between the Emperor and Shogun. John Quote
Rich T Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Umetada mark. Where is the repair you speak of, in one of the mon ? oh, it's ok, I have it LOL. More coffee. Richard Quote
Rich S Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Umetada? possibly, but it also has a lot of Saotome characteristics IMHO. Lots of folks embellished Saotome plates, even using early plates and adding decoration in late Edo period. Nice tsuba whoever made it. RIch S Quote
Pete Klein Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Saotome came to mind first with me too. Not certain but I lean that way. Quote
Brian Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 I have split and moved the very interesting discussion on diplomatic gift armour to a new post in the General Discussion section. It is well worth its own post, and we will let this tsuba one carry on. The discussion can be found here: http://www.militaria.co.za/nihontomessa ... php?t=2346 Regards, Brian Quote
