Tanto tsuba

Hi All,

 

Pictured is a little Tanto tsuba that I purchased today, its not in the best of condition but I liked it

 

It seems to have been repaired, Has anyone seen anything like this before

Hi Mark, I like it as well. It has a common kiku form. The crests are Tokugawa and the Emperors in combination, pro-Bakufu. Showing the relationship between the Emperor and Shogun. John

Umetada mark. Where is the repair you speak of, in one of the mon ? oh, it's ok, I have it LOL. More coffee.

Umetada? possibly, but it also has a lot of

Saotome characteristics IMHO. Lots of

folks embellished Saotome plates, even

using early plates and adding decoration

in late Edo period.

 

Nice tsuba whoever made it.

Saotome came to mind first with me too. Not certain but I lean that way.
