vajo Posted December 27, 2015 Report Posted December 27, 2015 Some one want to sell a "old" Wakizashi. He didn't know anything about it. I read Kanemaru 兼丸 but I'm not sure. The only Kanemaru that i found is from mino period. What you think. Is it a real one? I put the photos from all parts together in jpg file. Not very professionell. Quote
vajo Posted December 27, 2015 Author Report Posted December 27, 2015 hmm, i load a little better screenshot. Quote
SteveM Posted December 28, 2015 Report Posted December 28, 2015 Showa Seki smith Kanemoto, would be my guess. Quote
Guido Posted December 28, 2015 Report Posted December 28, 2015 Yes, Kanemoto. I shouldn't have skipped my annual optician's appointment ... Quote
vajo Posted December 28, 2015 Author Report Posted December 28, 2015 Kanemoto showa period. Seems you are right. Thank you for help. Quote
Stephen Posted December 28, 2015 Report Posted December 28, 2015 Chris Why do you think its showa era? oh i didnt read Stevens post. Why would you say Showa Steve? Quote
ROKUJURO Posted December 28, 2015 Report Posted December 28, 2015 Although the NAKAGO has been wire brushed (which is a very bad damage), I do not see hints for a late manufacture. Instead, the MEKUGI ANA looks KOTO to me, but maybe just the pictures. Chris, you wrote: Someone wants to sell an "old" Wakizashi. Seems, someone wants to buy one....What is it that you are attracted to in this case? Is it the price? It might be difficult to really enjoy this WAKIZASHI in this poor condition, but it will not be cheap or worthwhile to get it properly restored. TSUBA seems to be worthless, KO GATANA the same, so think about that.By the way, there is no MINO period! Quote
Stephen Posted December 28, 2015 Report Posted December 28, 2015 Well maybe he ment Mino school....ya? Quote
vajo Posted December 28, 2015 Author Report Posted December 28, 2015 A fried of mine asked me if i'm interested in a wakizashi. His friend sells things from a in german words "Wohnungsauflösung" maybe "housing resolution"? I have no idea about what it is. I have only some fotos he send me on the smartphone. Wich "period" Kanemoto - i didn't know. He said he wants 400 EUR for this wakizashi when its old. If not he would put it to the scrap container old metal. First i think it is written Kanemaru from mino. I tought maybe its a good one for restauration. If its showa i tell him that is not worth for restauration. So what to say? Quote
vajo Posted December 28, 2015 Author Report Posted December 28, 2015 Its old..buy it. I collect Gunto. It doesn't really fit to my collection. I will advice him to put it on ebay. Otherwise i think he will put it to scrap metal because selling on ebay is not his business. Quote
Stephen Posted December 28, 2015 Report Posted December 28, 2015 scrap it then i dont give a crap Quote

SteveM Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 Why would you say Showa Steve? We are talking about the sword in the very top picture, yes? To me it looks like a guntō in undistinguished, non-military mountings. That and the lack of patina on the nakago pushed me in the direction of Showa. Quote
Stephen Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 I see Steve, to me at first glance it looks to be a wak in satsuma rebellion mounts, guess its all in how you look at it. Quote
