drjoe Posted June 7, 2015 Report Posted June 7, 2015 not komonjo, but another source of signed but seemingly gimei gendai blades with no date. for the price, i was going to bid on this one (as an iai blade), but i missed the deadline and am kicking myself for it. decent forging and almost juka choji hamon... not too shabby for $400, even if the sadakiyo mei seems dubious. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Japanese-sword-/231578831138?nma=true&si=nowYRlC6ENp74gVkjrKMtlxj4o4%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 this one sold not long ago and looks like the same maker, but a different mei. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Japanese-Samurai-Sword-/231524876580?nma=true&si=nowYRlC6ENp74gVkjrKMtlxj4o4%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 the hada on this one seems more suspect and reminds me of chinese worksmanship: http://www.ebay.com/itm/231578834285?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT i suspect a similar situation as with mike yamaguchi's blades. very interesting though... Brian Posted June 7, 2015 Report Posted June 7, 2015 Those auctions reek of something...."Oh..I know about hamon and hada..but poor me, I don't read Japanese so I don't know who the sword is supposedly made by, even though I seem to have a steady supply of them..." Who is this guy? Brian Quote
Stephen Posted June 7, 2015 Report Posted June 7, 2015 all his sale sans koshirae?? something very fishy http://www.ebay.com/sch/wblwbl12/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=&LH_Complete=1&rt=nc Quote
Pete Klein Posted June 7, 2015 Report Posted June 7, 2015 OK -- I'm not a sword guy but those nakago all look modern. They're finished the same way and the 'mei' look like chicken scratch. Quote
Brian Posted June 7, 2015 Report Posted June 7, 2015 Don't think there is much doubt these are made outside of Japan, and then signed with random smith names. Brian Quote
lonely panet Posted June 7, 2015 Report Posted June 7, 2015 of course there not made in Japan, by the fully trained Japanese sword smith. Its so obvious by the price!, the tamahagane would cost more then $400. why bother with Mei, if your using it for IAI or cutting, now how much does a tazando made iai cost?? exactly they look ok for a entry level blade, well shaped and finish for a chinese piece, and if they were made by a knife maker in the US its going to cost bout $1500 more just because the maker has to atleast cover cost's $400, is only 2 days wages, it would have taken the maker atleast 4 days I would had thought, so its a bargin Quote
Stephen Posted June 7, 2015 Report Posted June 7, 2015 how do we know the buyer received his goods? Quote
