Jiro49 Posted February 11, 2014 Author Report Posted February 11, 2014 Is there any additional information on this smith? A search brings up virtually nothing.... Thanks again! Quote
Jiro49 Posted February 11, 2014 Author Report Posted February 11, 2014 So the nengo is 甲申 Kinoe Saru + autumn? Thanks! Quote
k morita Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Yes, the date is 甲申 Kinoe Saru +秋 Aki ( autumn). Quote
John A Stuart Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 秋 is Aki, autumn as said. 甲 is Kinoe, elder brother wood, 1st of the sexagenary cycle, Jikkan; 申 is Saru, monkey, ninth of the zodiac, Junishi. 1824, 1884, 1944, 2004 etc. John Quote
Jiro49 Posted February 12, 2014 Author Report Posted February 12, 2014 Thank you both! Does anyone know if there is an eglish translation of the book that Morita-san found this smith in? Thanks again! Quote
cabowen Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Unless there is actually a book I am unaware of, I believe Morita san is referring to a series of articles published in the NBTHK journal, Token Bijutsu. There is no English translation. Quote
Jiro49 Posted February 12, 2014 Author Report Posted February 12, 2014 Thank you.. If anybody has them I would appreciate if you could scan and post it. I will harass my wife for translation help. Thanks again! Quote
george trotter Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 The sexagenary cycle used here is permitted under the RJT signing and dating rules, The rules are as posted by Brian in the "Articles" link. The sexagenary cycle is published in many books such as Papinot's Hist. & Geog. Dictionary of Japan and also in my 1980 edit. of Tokuno Toko Taikan...and many other books. Kiyoshi san, Thanks you for the info from Uchiyama. Regards, Quote
cabowen Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Thank you.. If anybody has them I would appreciate if you could scan and post it. I will harass my wife for translation help. Thanks again! Not an easy task as it was a 5-6 part series, each a dozen or more pages. Quote
Jiro49 Posted February 12, 2014 Author Report Posted February 12, 2014 Murphy's law.... Does anyone have any additional information on this guy? Quote
cabowen Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 It is doubtful that much more, if any, information has been published about him. He was not a well known smith during the war and worked in an area that can best be described as rural, as compared to smiths who worked in or around Tokyo. Unfortunately, there is little info on a great many smiths of this type... Quote
Jiro49 Posted February 12, 2014 Author Report Posted February 12, 2014 Naruhodo... Well I had to ask Thank you! Quote
