Jorgensen Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 Hi, Any thoughts/comments on this one? Blade length: 43 cm Width at hamachi: 3.4 cm Kasane: 0.7 cm Total lenght: 63 cm Quote
Nobody Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 The blade seems to be a Kaifu-to - 海部刀. Quote
Chishiki Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 Yes. Research Kaifu School. That should be the mei on the blade. Mark Quote
Geraint Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 And very nice koshirae from my point of view. Enjoy. Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 Might be interesting to also post a photo of the text on the blade. KM Quote

Kai-Gunto Posted September 26, 2013 Report Posted September 26, 2013 Thanks mates, I will search kaifu ju ujitsugu. Any idear on age and style on the koshirae. Thanks in regards. Quote
Ron STL Posted September 26, 2013 Report Posted September 26, 2013 It was either in Albert Yamanaka's Nihonto Newsletters or perhaps in Sword and Same' it was mentioned if the edge is left side or right side (I don't recall the order), the sword was either meant to "cut heads" or "cut bamboo." Factual? It sure impress me years ago when I had such a blade. This is the first of these Kaifu-to that I've seen in many years and probably the first, in mounts. All I've come across were in shirasaya. I put together an article on these swords for the JSS/US Newsletter back in the 1970s or so. Today, there is probably ten times that much info available, I'm sure. Ron STL Quote
John A Stuart Posted September 26, 2013 Report Posted September 26, 2013 Is this a legitimate Nankai area sword? Were they not signed Ashu ju ..., not Kaifu ju ... ? John Quote
