Grey Doffin Posted December 8, 2012 Report Posted December 8, 2012 Hi Pat, I can't think of a book I would call a beginner's on tsuba, but there are lots of tsuba books. Tsuba Taikan Tsuba Shusei Tsuba Kanshoki Toso Soran The Art Appreciation of Japanese Sword Fittings Robert Haynes' auction catalogs each contain a short section of kodogu history by school. Sasano Masayuki wrote quite a few good books: Early Japanese Swordguards, Sukashi Tsuba, Sasano, Akasaka Tsuba, and others. The Sano Museum has released a few: Sukashi Tsuba and Chic Sukashi, Akasaka Tsuba come to mind. There is a small Japanese book titled Sukashi Tsuba with lots of good illustrations and that isn't expensive. And there are others. Grey Quote
Curran Posted December 8, 2012 Report Posted December 8, 2012 Tsuba, An Aesthetic Study", by Kazutaro Torigoye and Robert Haynes, from the "Tsuba Geijutsu-Ko" of Kazutaro Torigoye, 300 pages. from here: http://www.ncjsc.org/ncjsc_publications.htm $25 Go to Lulu.co and search on "Sesko" See: http://www.lulu.com/shop/markus-sesko/t ... 23849.html Also: http://www.lulu.com/shop/markus-sesko/k ... 66848.html Between either e-reader or waiting until Lulu sends you a discount code, you can get the three books for less than $100 total. Mind you, the books don't have very good illustrations- but as you read you can query on the Internet and look for examples. These 3 books should keep you busy for a year or two. Quote
Henry Wilson Posted December 8, 2012 Report Posted December 8, 2012 I think this is a good introduction too. http://www.lulu.com/shop/richard-george ... 48110.html Quote
