  1. Honcho gunkiko?, lovely old book especially a section where a chap was angry to ,find after buying a sword that the Sam'e had been faked. Sold a first edition without the authors signature on ebay a few years ago, it made £500. Roy
  2. The cross is very crude, would expect even a "Christian" symbol would be more precise. Also the cherry blossom looks odd on the mekugi, what does the blade look like?, possibly Chinese in origin??. Roy
  3. Well judging by the mounts it not right, lets see the blade in full. Roy
  4. Does the name "Felix Urban" mean anything to members? Roy
  5. et you're suggesting that these same people rub diamond paste on a 3ft razor? Sensible... :D Unless your big foot then no Roy
  6. Have a non Lindus for very long swords,ex Dr Turk collection with mon if you dare, all others are in european collections...... Roy

  8. At the middle age of 70 I find it wonderfull that I no longer have anything to prove, had a bundle of fun,did no damage and spent time with the greats,eg,Tony Chapman, kenji mishina and Ford Hallem{who swopped one of my polished blades for a very fine naginata. My saya,Shira saya,Tsuka still pop up at auction as do many Kake, so happy people happy me. Bye the way, show us some of your work Roy
  9. Did at the first To - Ken taikai, recieved a paper, the sword is now with a Scottish member of the NMB [edit] Quick, somone call the cops, there's clear evidence in the pic above of a drunk trying to follow a shinogi line. Not a photographer then!! neither am I Roy
  10. In the words of a well known English prositute in the sixties "he would say that wouldent he" Roy
  11. One thing I have allways enjoyed is the rubbish and elitism talked by some collectors, from the polish subject to believing that all collectors can afford the cost on ordinary swords to check out via a polisher. During my years involved in metal work I have found that almost all are myths, I watched as Doc price produced a decent Hamon with the help of a oxy acet: torch and compressed air, tool makers tempering everything from carpenters plane blade to wood working chisels that showed what we would consider utusuri. I made a blade for fun and tempered it using a mixture of fire clay and china clay, when polished it had both nie and utsuri. As to polish with diamond paste,it will not obscure hada in the shinogi it actually brings it out, so unless you have tried it do not dissmiss. My polishing was final stage only, it allowed people to view all aspect of the work prior to committing big money to a full polish, the other aspect was that with showato of poor quality it allowed the new/small time and martial art owner to have a good looking blade at an affordable price. I am well aware of the damage potential to good blades, have owned over two hundred in all with around just 3% that could be considered quality,eg,Muramasa,Gassan,Tadayoshi,Tadamitsu,Norimitsu, Morimitsu et al. Those who have never been involved in metal work, never had a forge and forge welded, polished a blade , made and lacquered saya's or had little money should hesitate in this internet age from posting ill informed comments. Roy
  12. Some years ago when I was into polishing of a sort I found burnishing both tireing and problematical, often the pin would catch a lamination and ruin the finish. I mentioned this to a collector who was also a Jeweler, he suggested Diamond paste and a company that supplied his trade. The initial trial using the paste, hobby miniature drill and a small fibre polishing disc produced a mirror finish in just thirty minutes on a katana, if you have not tried this it is well worth the few pounds to kit yourself out. Roy
  13. Well done Chris,he will be "Tickled pink" Thanks Roy
  14. Another collector has just sent me this, cannot make sense of it at all, any help will be most appreciated. Thanks Roy
  15. The ito looks new'ish as does the polish at the Yakote, perhaps done at the same time as the "Gold" inlay Roy
  16. Nice guy, met him on a couple of occasions and had many email/telephone conversations. It was him that suggested the way swords should be presented on Kake, when I asked why his tsuka were to the right he replied {Roughly as was a few years ago} "Always prepared" Roy
  17. After thought, have you checked under the press stud flap on the combat cover?,some times the officer penned his details there. Roy
  18. A couple of points should be made, first the mei cutting will leave a V shape cut into the steel, this would not normally be a way of holding any metal inlay. Overe some years I have seen several gold inlayed inscriptions, allways the end product is flat to the surtface of the Nakago, to retain the inlay the edge needs undercutting or as in Zogan, cross hatched, both methods will then allow retention of the metal inlayed. I have one on a gendai where gold {or similar} has been applied to the mei and kakihan, most of the inlay has fallen out on the mei leaving only two characters with partial remenants. the Kakihan still has 90%. What I would suggest is that this was most likely done by a post war collector to enhance the value or equally likely an officers supplier to raise the asking price. Roy
  19. Yes, many years ago in the Ron Gregory collection, will see if I have a photograph. Roy Found it......not great quality photo but but was one of two he had, I briefly had a Tachi/Daisho but was one of the all copper mounts type......... R again

  22. My translation skills are now pretty rusty, plus the world of Teppo has no Fujishiro or Hawley to fall back on. Any help with both the inscriptions would be much appreciated. Roy

  25. Anybody who falls for that, I got some dirt cheap ocean front property in Tennessee USA you might also be interested in...:D _________________ Adam L. Fair comment Adam but just took 30 mins out on the web and since 07 this man has stolen $5000, this was from a few men brave enough to admit the loss. The sites I found were all in the US so you can imagine that world wide he is on quite an earner!!. Surely he can be traced by one of the computer bod's??, via IP address?, have to admit a lifelong hatred of thieves but as theft in the UK is now seen as a non crime I appear to be one of a small and dieing group. Roy
