  1. Still clearing box's since the "She who rules" move to a smaller space. Have offered several items for free in the past but to save NMB space and enhance visits to my pension scheme web site I have put more stuff on a seperate page. this link will take you to my index page {Well } click on the "free" link. Some are postage only while some are postage free but require you make a donation to the NMB {Brian needs at least one meal a day in his cave} Recently we {The boss} have given a pile of stuff to an animal charity as well as a Hospice, sadly when offered a Japanese print they declined :| Have a large number of Chinese prints which if the membership is interested would be happy to post free but there must be a payment to St.Julia's Hospice in Hayle,Cornwall,UK. Enough of this good guy stuff..... have you all seen the amazing Tanto & Wakizashi discounted on the site??????if not why not. We {She who rules} & I will donate a good bundle to our favorite {see above} from any sale so if you wish to pay above the asking price your name will be added to the contribution. http://collectorsloot.homestead.com/ Thanks for reading this guys Roy PS I know that somewhere I have two files of {a} dozens of reply letters from Ron Gregory {b} lists from dealers (after my address was published by the JSSUS way back} if you are interested register this, postage only but some contribution to the St Julia Hospice is essential.
  2. Offered at reduced price are seven good Tanto & two equally nice Wakizashi, follow the links to each page after this. http://collectorsloot.homestead.com/var1.html Please email me from the site with any questions. Thanks Roy
  3. Had a call from a collector today re buying a sword from Japan, could not answere but am sure an update will come from members. Seems he wants a Wakizashi from a Japanese dealer, the man stated that all forms of posting swords from Japan were nowa problem due to legislation . He would send surface which could take 50/70 days, or Fedex, but this may in the near future be liable to the same problem of all the old postal systems currently face. Am sure in the recent past I read of a chap who took his sword as hold luggage to Japan, it was accepted by a well known polisher who took it through the system. When completed he flew over and collected ????. Thoughts on this gentlemen please Roy
  4. Thanks for the comment David. Enjoyed your web site, the photographs of your Japan trip brought back some very happy memories. Roy
  5. Welcome young Wilton....not befor time may I say. Roy
  6. Have a look a Tep4,one of two remaining from my collection. http://collectorsloot.homestead.com/Matchlocks.html Roy
  7. That would have been so interesting if I could have understood just a part.... Thanks Brian Roy
  8. But forgot to upload pics These are the most simple of things once down to it,one thing to remember is that working copper hardens it which is ideal for the spring. To soften just aneal {heat and quench}, the original was missing most of the parts so thought I would have a go at fabricating the whole thing from scratch. Roy
  9. If a member of the NMB bought a Katana from the Truro auction house around a month ago would come foreword.. Went to the auction to bid for a friend, although the tsuka would not come off it was a truly splendid blade in awfull mounts. My friend gave me the max of £2500 but it went to either an internet or telephone bid. Am crippled with curiousity would love to know what the buyer found when he finally got the Tsuka off.. Roy
  10. Just found this photograph of a Kabuto that came my way in the 90's,had studied Miochin & Saitome, did not consider this of any particular interest. One of the great armour collectors saw it in the boot of my car and offered to buy, he added that he was not interested in the Menpo that came with it and would throw it in as a sweetner. We all learn by our mistakes,should anything come your way that looks like this, grab it but be aware many fakes are out there. Roy { if the letter is not easily readable, basically it says that the Kabuto is so rare it is seldom seen in Japan,also it is a mystery how it came to be outside Japan.}

    Shinsa question

Have moved the conversation to sales Jean. Bon voyage Roy

    Shinsa question

First let me apologise re the mistaken "1st Generation" The owner thought this was the comment but as Jean pointed out in the Sale section, if 1610 is correct it could not be. The Interesting thing now I have both the sword and Paper and can see why he was confused , are the circled comments. Historically valuable.. Yes Worth preserving...Yes Needs polishing ...No "The workmanship is by this smith, but the signature is wrong" It would infer that the shinsa were comparing and judging against a known & well thought of smith,to late to ask but why not add to the comment the smith ?. Perhaps a silly question but I can see why he was confused. Roy
  13. I have never charged collectors or NMB members for items placed on the consigned section of my web site, sometimes it takes months to sell an item, some go in days. All I ask is good photgraphs, name and address where the payment can be made and goods despatched, seldom a problem in the past but should one occur it is the Buyer/Seller who will have to sort it out. Roy http://www.collectorsloot.homestead.com Would expect a contribution to the NMB from any successfull sale
  14. The converted repair Tanagashima for sale now see sale section. Roy
  15. """"IT WORKS""" Got hold of a couple of percussion caps, the simple repair works well so the moral of this is " if you have a gun problem ask the members before going to a gunsmith {sorry gunsmiths}. Perhaps more for these simple jobs but a push in the right direction from Ian made the whole thing both enjoyable and damned cheap. Thanks for you input folks. Roy
  16. Thanks for the thought Martin, the menuki have been on for a long time and the ito is well handled so I would guess they have been in that position for many years, perhaps a martial art thing with the second peg hole??. "oops" just checked the second hole,to small for peg, would guess this is where a Sarute went for the officers rank tassel> Roy
  17. This Tsuka has what may be the most unusual Menuki positions ever. The menuki, and would appreciate opinions, although a little worn seem pretty good quality as are the F&K. The seppa are engraved with designs of village and floral while the Tsuba looks odd although the sword was carried in WW2 and would have stood up well to military use. Question really in two parts, How old the menuki & their position on the Tsuka, is the second mekugi ana near Kashira any hint to the way mounted?. Roy http://www.collectorsloot.homestead.com
  18. welcome young man, they are a weird bunch here but you will come to enjoy the spats and huge amount of help available to you...... Roy

    Shinsa question

See above, seems it was an NTHK shinsa. Roy

    Shinsa question

Apparently it was seen to be the work of the first generation Kanefusa. The blade is in good polish, very elegant with full length Hi, the hamon appears to be right for the mans work, sadly the chap is so upset he has asked if I would put it as a consigned sword on my website. Seems it was NTHK shinsa involved. Will let the members know when pictures are available. Roy

    Shinsa question

Question asked today that perhaps members could answere. A sword went to shinsa in the UK, was declared as a first generation of that line but paper declined as the signature is not right and added later. What should the owner do?. Roy
  22. The Mon is self explanatory but the decoration of insects has always puzzled me, is it just a whim or has this some weird Japanese meaning?. Roy
  23. Well that was interesting, the broken pin came out easily followed by two tiny "Shims". It would seem when the gun was converted the man missdrilled the hole for the locating pin,by doing this he offset the position allowing more pressure to be applied to the spring. As an attempt to follow with my limited kit would have been near impossible I decided to Tap the hole{put in a thread} and fit a removable screw, the end fitting over rather than in the plate. (See attached) Although not as the original is in some ways better should similar occur in the future, the whole thing works very well and at the cost of around two hours and a bolt... Had forgotten what a sweet Teppo this is, the barrel round and tapering with ribs running the full length to a splendid muzzle which has a silver band inlaid. The stock is unlike any other I have had as it turns to the right much like European weapons. Thanks for the advice folks. Roy
  24. Pin seems to be of a mild steel construction so should not be difficult to drill out. Peter, Will photograph and put on NMB as I go, embarrassed, as it seems now such a simple diagnostic process,it is the old scenario of not knowing the question to ask ..... Roy
  25. A glass awaits you young man,Many thanks. Roy
