  1. As with most things in our lives at the moment, it will hit all our pockets in the UK . Not just restoration, but buying from all the auction houses. They cannot send out via the Post Office. So it’s use a courier or if within reason , have a jolly nice drive out to collect in person , and of course when buying abroad, the dreaded 1 brain cell person at British Border force , who cannot tell the difference between a genuine antique and a brand new shiny Chinese knock off . 😤
  2. Hi, I am the proud owner of the Kanetomo , I had been after it for over 14 years , from its original owner who put it into Halls auction. It changed hands from Colin to our mutual friend Kevin. I did a deal with Kevin earlier this year and it is now polished . I’m very pleased to say it has turned out perfect not a blemish.
  3. Hi Mick, I’ve had a sword stuck in Border control since 8th November last year. The last 2 times I have chased it .On both occasions over the phone I have been told .i have submitted all the correct information and it should not have been held over. You will get it back I’m told it’s just in the system and it’s when it your turn . When dealing with antiques, you would think some body with more than 1 brain cell would be involved and not just a jobs worth . Mine has been perchased out of polish . It is just a blade , so a full project in hand.
  4. Hi Tristan, the pictures I sent Bruce, were the only pictures available. The description was very basic . A Japanese sword.!!!.
  5. Wessex Auction Rooms Westbrook Farm Draycot Cerne Chippenham Wiltshire SN15 5LH Located just off J17 of the M4 Tel 01249 720888 Email enquiries@wessexauctionrooms.co.uk
  6. Hi Bruce, here are the main 3 images the auction house had on their website. I hope you can see some more information.
  7. Hi Ian, it’s I suppose even during the war , Del Trotter sold swords. To our non UK members Google Delboy. That will explain my theory.
  8. I looked at this sword last week, i consulted with 2 fellow members and we all concluded Fake . I emailed the auction house to see the tang, my reply , we can’t get the handle off !!! . Strange place for the Mon to be engraved, the orimono on the other side of the blade made no sense and £2k was miles too high to pay.
  9. If the price of the sword is within his budget , buy it for what it is . I would . It has a nicely cut signature, if no flaws !!!
  10. I had mine since 1974. You can’t miss it in your book collection.
  11. Thank you, that looks very close. I will look to see if I can find anything under these names.
  12. Yes, but rather a design it’s I think a type of Kanji .
  13. Hi all, Can anybody recognise this family Mon .
  14. Thanks Bruce, I restarted collecting after a 30 year break. I sold all my first collection back in the late 90 to date I have 2 Moritsugu Norisada guntos .1 repolished . 1 about to be started . 1 Takayama Nagamitsu, stuck in British border force , hopefully released in the a mediate near future.1 Shinano Tomomaro newly polished one of the best Gendaito I have ever seen .also waiting for polishing a Ujifusa and a nice Terahide. So if you need any info on these smiths I have examples . I lucky to have a togishi of over 40 years polishing near were I live in England , his teacher was a pupil of Kotoken Kajihara . All the best Brendan
  15. Hi Bruce, I don’t know if you have had this one before I acquired it . I have just received it back from being polished .
