  1. Hi Vieira I'm interested and a MA grad in Japanese studies and a martial artist. The only battle I know between the two was a naval battle which the Portuguese won( expectedly). Can you kindly send me the link to what you posted so I can get a closer look. Thanks
  2. 🤣🤣🤣 Please don't make me laugh. That's like me saying us British beat all Europeans and we know how to bull fight better than Spaniards
  3. Thank you Michael I'd drop him an email, and see what he says. Doubt hel do it, otherwise il try myself 😆
  4. Hi do any of my fellow Brits know anyone that does sayagaki in the UK ? I do have a freind who practices Japanese calligraphy with an acclaimed teacher, but I don't believe sayagaki is there thing. Thanks
  5. Understood @Bruce Pennington each to their own. I guess everyone has their own preferences and joys in collecting. Regards
  6. There a few blades which go on sale at Aoi art that are showato , and quite cheap at under 2k. So if these swords are illegal to have in Japan how does Tsuruta san get these papered or sent for deregister to export ? Bit confused. Also I get the feeling that showato swords aren't really at the top of people's collection want lists. I've been put off by them and just won't buy anything from that period. Regards
  7. @matthewbrice Tons of info and drama
  8. Thank you Michael, I was using conissour of the Japanese sword book by Nagayama, and was struggling to find this information. I appreciate the effort you put posting that, I will try and get hold of sesskos book. Kind regards Paz
  9. Hi all. Doing some research on a blade I'm interested in and made the novice mistake of thinking that Kashu kagemitsu was related to Osafune kagemitsu. Of the Bizen tradition. Has anyone here got more info on Kashu Kagemitsu. I'm reading conflicting info that he was of the Kagemitsu school, or that he was part of the Sanekage line. He was active late 14th century muromachi era. His work uses apparently black Jigane, and the school is noted to have one of their blades given as a gift to Date masamune. Thanks Regards
  10. @Lareonthanks for the update Tony. glad were getting somewhere with this. Did you get any idea of why and how they seized the second blade which had complete import info on there? Did they have a marker on your address at all. Thanks
  11. Ups for Europe via America. But some dealers are apparently using private couriers
  12. Thanks for the help.
  13. Hi all I gather this mei is sadatsugu bicchu koku ju aoe. Wartime era 1940s , any further info on this particular smith ? I can't seem to find anything on him in Google. Thanks Regards
  14. Glad to hear this Michael. I hate to say it but Tony's situation could actually benefit the overall UK collectors community, as it has clearly highlighted the flaws in border forces understanding of law. Suffice to say I and others have successfully imported blades from Japan recently, which shows how inconsistent their understanding actually is. And border force losing this case ( which I'm hoping they will) , would cost them financially and make them reevaluate their decisions. Regards
  15. Sorry to bump this thread but anymore ?

    Koshirae tsuba and saya

Thanks Jean, amended . Hope admin sees this and moves it. Another question I have is regarding this type of gunto style saya. How would this be carried? Edge up or down, as there's no obvious sageo to tie to an obi ? I'm not planning to parade around in it just curious. thanks Regards
  17. Hi all please find my koshirae of a sword attached. The saya is early meiji period, however the tsuba I can't really tell which date or era it is. Any ideas would be great, thanks.
  18. This is getting ridiculous. I can't get my head around how they don't follow on from the policy points. This is definitely the ignorance and plain right stupidity of one individual. I do feel as if you are being bullied, as many others have imported without any issue and providing token cards as proof of membership. I would come to conclude that whoever received your documents didn't bother to read them properly at all. I would definitely go to your local MP, if that helps at all. The sword law is soo ridiculous that having a curved sword for religious purposes is perfectly fine, and can even be carried in public. The sword law in the UK is specifically banning samurai swords of the cheap fake type, even though you can get a curved stainless steel sword over 50 cm if it's indian or Persian. To be fair there's no outcry from Japanese sword owners or community for them to change it. Unlike other communities such as the Sikhs, who can carry curved swords for religious purposes, and would have a voice. Regards
  19. I'm early 30s with lots of catching up to do. Lol. @yuriealready added to my collection. I might be the youngest reader yet Regards
  20. I can't actually beleive you can get away with that in a strict import /export nation as Japan. And to @zhangziyi777these are far from authentic papers. And the seller should never have said they were, if he did at all. Regards
  21. Hey Ray out of curiosity why would a seller send these papers along with the sword to an international buyer, when these papers are required within Japan ? I guess he had to apply for exportation which took 30 days aswell. Regards
  22. Just like Mark I'm very confused. On another topic I've heard dodgy reports on huawei swords due to the covid problems in China. Some people never received their swords.
  23. I'm also looking for a sayashi in Europe or world. I've been given one reputable contact who is yet to reply to my email. Regards
  24. Thanks Alex I've stumbled across some. Think that's where I got the word beady lol. If you ever buy a hanwei sword ( I'm sure you wont) it will come with a heavy load of wax, which greases the blade beyond beleif. You have to wipe it a few times before you can see anything on the blade 😆. It looks like snot.
