  1. Oops, meant other coast from me, lol. As Jean says, Ray is in Miami, so same coast as you.
  2. Ray Singer (see dealer section) is on the other coast. There are a couple of people in Florida who probably have the experience, but Ray is the one that comes to mind first.
  3. Hope it turns up. Beautiful blade.
  4. I look forward to seeing the pictures when it returns. What we can see of the Hamon is intriguing. Eager to see it in full polish.
  5. Thank you, Grey. That was my impression before purchasing through them and I am glad to hear it echoed. Still, I had to check to see if there was any chance of getting more info on how that attribution was arrived at as it would have been SO informative and educational.
  6. Thanks Grey. I had a feeling that would be the reality of the situation. It's the "no specific reason to doubt the paper's authenticity," that throws the wrench, so to speak. The blade is from AOI and the paper appears legit. The picture certainly matches the nakago (though I will be looking more carefully again), but there are some questions that can be raised as to the attribution vs the blade. You can check out the "New Acquisition" thread I posted for a look yourself, if you haven't seen it. It would have been awesome if there were some record of the notes from the Kantei as they could answer a lot of the points that are in question. I'm just new enough in the hobby to be insecure in what I have and wishing I had something more concrete to rely on.
  7. Happy Monday all! Did not want to hijack the other thread, so I'm pasting MIchael's post below (bottom of post). By the way Michael, thank you for posting that link. With that said, for MIchael or anyone else with experience in this, what can I expect regarding further information from the NBTHK if I contact them about a paper? Would they have any other information other than the fact that the paper was issued? I'm kind of hoping for some further detail on how the Kantei group reached the decision they did. Further, would the be likely to have further documentation (i.e. pictures) of the blade so that it could be confirmed that the blade currently with the paperwork is the blade that was originally papered? This section seems to refer to this, but I'm not sure: Is this basically saying that you would need to send the blade in? Lastly, it appears phone contact is the only way to go? I somehow don't see that going all that well...I'm assuming it would be best to go through someone who already is used to working with the NBTHK?
  8. I can’t imagine wanting to polish out kirikomi unless one knew that the damage was not...historical, so to speak. Being that a large part of my interest in Nihonto revolves around the history of Japan and the blade’s place in that history, I would see most kirikomi as an added value rather than a detraction.
  9. Ok, ya’ll have me a little self conscious here. No comments at all? Here’s the signature and the paperwork. Hozon Edo Period (mid-1600’s) Mutsu Province Sendai Kunikane School (or Kinmichi school...see below) Oushu Ju I(y)esada Now, a question. The information from AOI would suggest this was first generation. However, the signature does not include “Sendai” which appears to be a hallmark of the first gen I(y)esada (based on info from Nihontoclub). Apparently if this was the first gen Iesada he was a Student of Kunikane and part of that school, but if second gen he was (also?) a student of Nidai Kinmichi. (Side note, what does Nidai mean?) Does the paperwork state which generation it is in some way? thanks for reading and any help appreciated.
  10. Not getting any response on my post in the main Nihonto board (Original post), so will try here for the Sanskrit Boshi request. Trying to see if anyone knows what these are. I believe the smaller one (second picture, tip of blade to right) may be Kwojin or Kongoyasha Myo? The larger one (first picture, tip of blade to left) I am thinking is Fudo Myo? Any hep/confirmation? And can someone point me in the direction of more info on the meaning/significance of these being carved into the blade?
  11. You are NOT kidding! It is amazing! Mokume? Also, considering the level of photography, I feel a little better about my attempts to get pictures of Boshi on my own swords.
  12. Wow. Thank you for posting. Some amazing stuff in here. Mostly outside my budget but still wonderful to see. I find this one piece simply astounding.
  13. Oops. Guess I should have signed up for the membership first and posted second! Sorry for all the picture posts.
  14. So, for those who enjoyed my previous thread, here's another. For those who didn't, well...sorry! I purchased both blades from AOI. This second is a Hozon papered, (i believe) ubu, signed Wakizashi in Shirasaya with silver habaki(no mounts this time). There are Sanskrit Bonji on both side (any help in confirming translation appreciated). I believe the smaller one may be Kwojin or Kongoyasha Myo? The larger one I am thinking is Fudo Myo? Nagasa: Just shy of 54cm Sori: 1.3cm Weight: 580 grams Hada: Mixed Itame and Mokume Hamon: Gunome Midare Pictures to follow. As before, all opinions and thoughts welcome.
  15. Very interesting. I see where you are coming from with the similarities. Will be interesting to see how it comes out. Are you planning on sending your soon-to-be-polished blade for Shinsa?
