Hello, I wanted to double check if my reading of those mei is correct: 1. Tsuba is signed "Shigemasa" with Kao? 2. Kozuka signed "Hidenao" Thank you for your comments in advance. Best Regards, Krystian

Hello, I have this tsuba for some time now and can't figure it out. It is made of brass and decorated with iron carp. Apart from that there is gold, shakudo and silver inlay. Do you have any idea about time period it was made or the maker? Thank you in advance. Regards, Krystian

Thank you John.

Thank you. I though that there might be something more. Like information about the Kao.

Thank you Christian, I wanted to find some reference on the intertnet but could not find much. By any chance do you know a book or website where I can find more of Shoami Kanesada? I bought this tsuba because of the interesting design. It is just a bonus If I can find a maker and compare to other works:) Best Regards, Krystian

Hello, Could you help me a bit and confirm if my reading of mei is correct? I think it is kanesada 金定. And if so is he Kanesada H 02527.0 from Haynes Index? Thank you all in advance. Krystian

Thank you John, My unfortunately is not signed on the side. This is however 3 kozuka like that I was able to finde. I have one, one is on sale on Yahoo and one sold by Aoi. So probably it was a popular theme with many copies made.

I also thought abut Jakushi at first but after close examination I am more and more skeptical. Here are some examples from my archives of tsuba that I am certain are real Jakushi. The things that are different: 1. mei. 2. patina and steel color 3. Face and scales of the dragon are a bit "soft". Could not see any tool marks on them. But I am not certain. That is why I wrote the post in the first place. If you think that this looks like a genuine Jakushi, that is a good news for me:)

Hello, I just got this tsuba and can't figure it out. It looks a lot like a cast but inlay is genuine. Someone had to put a lot of effort to make it. Please let me know what you think. Best Regards, Krystian

A bit of background on two of the tsuba here. The one Steven has right now I bought from Japanese tsuba dealer as "Muromachi". I think that there might be merit for that time attribution but my personal opinion is that it is early edo. It my not look so good on pictures but in real life It really makes an impression. The one from ebay is on auction now: https://www.ebay.com/itm/253879888660 This one I bought in hope to have a daisho set with those two. But in condition, size and quality they are so different that I dropped that idea and decided to sell them separately.

I know that there are some collectors in Poland and I heard amazing things about some of their items. I also hear from many Japanese dealers that they sell a lot to Poland. But hearing and seeing are two different things:) Some of them are missing their mates, but same mates are mixed in the pile of items and just need to be fund. Unfortunately serpent is all alone..

Hello, Sharing some pictures of the collection I was asked to catalogue. I never even knew the items like that could be found in Poland outside museums. All those items where actually bought on flea markets 30-50 years ago! This is such a pleasure to have them in my hands and look for attribution. Few next days will be a lot of fun:) Krystian

Hello, I have this peculiar shaped blade and wonder what exactly is it. A tanto or yari? Blade is 18 cm. Mune is 4,5 mm near habaki and 9,5 in the thickest place. Thank you in advance for all comment. Best Regards, Krystian

Thank you guys. As far as I understand you consider it to be a shinshinto blade but not good enough to be worth giving it a proper polish?

Well I thought that this is a modern made nihonto with artificial patina on nakago. Based on size of motohaba I would also say that it was made for cutting? So exactly what you guys say I should get for tamishigiri... But now I am not certain and that is why I ask members of this board who have much more knowledge than I do. I add few more pictures. I am sorry but this is the best my ability allow me to do:(

Hello, I purchased this blade and thought that It will be a good fit for tameshigiri. But there seem to be a lot of activity on the hamon so now I do not know what to do. Could you give me your opinions? Use It for tameshigiri or maybe invest and have it polished? Size: Blade: 60 cm Motohaba: 31,8 mm Motokasane: 7,8 mm Sakihaba: 21,3 mm Sakikasane: 5,5 mm Sori: 8mm Thank you in advance for all comment. Best Regards, Krystian

Thank you John. I also thought about that at first but according to nihontoclub.com there where only few makers in Suruga that signed with 兼. And non of them has similar second kanji. So this one was not know or I have to buy proper literature and stop using internet:)
