  5. Hello, Could you help me with reading this signature? last three Kanji look like 地 正長, could also be 菊池正長? Thank you for all your help. Krystian
  6. Chris, At first I was a bit offended by your comment. However at the same time I realised that this is an amazing compliment. For a person such as yourself, with so much experience in the field to consider work off this quality to be impossible. While in fact it was achieved, is great compliment. At this point I have to add that this was done as a show of craftsmanship. It took around a week of work under microscope to do. So from economical point of view it does not have a lot of sense. It is much easier to remove oxidation and dirt together with patina and then just make new patina. Here are some photos of kashira made during cleaning. I hope that they prove that no gold was added. To add gold you need perfectly clean piece. On those pictures you can see different stages of oxidation being removed, with no spots missing gold.
  7. Thank you Franco for clarification. I understand what you meant and in general I fully agree. There is very difficult to judge the condition and based on that decide how far to go with cleaning. In this particular case it might also be a problem with my poor quality work with flash photography. In real life I do not see a problem that you mentioned. Here are few photos made with a phone.
  8. Thank you for your input Franco. If possible could you tell some examples on how to improve the restoration work? And could you say where exactly you can see the restoration work? I am sorry for those addition questions but I want to be sure I fully understand you so I can learn from your comment.
  9. Thank you for your kind words. No gold was added. We were lucky that this set was not damaged, just kept in very bad conditions.
  10. Hello, Here are few photos of fuchikashira and menuki set before and after cleaning. This was done with mechanical cleaning, without damaging original patina. I highly value opinions off all board members so please let me know what are your thoughts and If possible what could still be improved. This is not my work, however craftsman who did this do not speak English so I post those pictures instead. Regards, Krystian
  11. Thank you for the translation. It is a shame that hakogaki is not for the items inside. I will share more photos of the set soon. It is very nice.
  12. Hello, Could you help me with reading of this hakogaki? Thank you. Krystian
  13. Can you share some additional close up photos of the shishi? It could be helpful for attribution.
  14. Here are few photos of tsuka I just got with the wolf and moon fittings.
  15. Hello, Here is musashino sukashi tsuba in rather poor condition. There are traces of signature that look like "忠時" Tadotaki. However If you have other opinions I would be happy to hear them. Making an assumption that it is Tadatoki signature I started looking at signatures of different generations to find any similarities. Only distinctive part I was able to find is the stroke circled in red. It starts away from the center and does not make a closed square, like in most Tadatoki signatures. I was able to find signatures of Tadatoki 5th generation with the same way of carving this part of signature (tsuba no. 46 in Akasaka Tsuba by Sano Art Museum). Design of this tsuba is also similar to no. 46. It is signed on the back side, kozuka and kogai ana are similar and rim looks fin and delicate. I wonder what are your opinions. Or is it do damaged to say anything? Regards, Krystian
  16. Thank you Chris. I will try to follow that thread. I alredy found few examples of poems on kozuka but non with this one.
  17. Hello, Could you help me with translation of this poem? Thank you in advance. Krystian
  18. Hello, Here is an Onigawara tsuba with inscription on the back side made with silver inlay. In my opinion first kanji is "天" (Heaven) and second "王" (King). I have no idea about the last one. I asked on facebook and got two possiblie options: 1. ten-jin-chi: heaven-man-earth 2. Tennoji: name of the temple in Tokyo or district in Osaka. Please let me know what are your thoughts. Regards, Krystian
  19. It was stabilized with alcohol and tannin. So I hope it won't but I do not have long time experince to be certain that this method will work.
  20. Hello, I just got interesting tsuba from conservation (few pictures now and before). It is signed "Seijuken Hamano Haruyoshi" and it is made of iron. I found almost identcal one made of shakudo sold at Sothebys. http://www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/ecatalogue/2005/Japanese-works-of-art-prints-and-paintings-l05861/lot.1017.html They are almost identical in design. Tree on the front side in right upper corner has the same coposition of gold and copper inlay. Based on that I assume that maker of the iron one had the one from Sothebys in hand. As far as I can say inlay is made of solid gold. So this was not meant to be cheap replica. Just found and iron one in Choshuya: https://www.choshuya.co.jp/senrigan/李白観瀑図鐔 銘 -生壽軒濱野春好(花押)/鍔/春好(花押)?lang=en I wonder what are your thoughts abut it. Regards, Krystian
  21. Thank you Adam and Steve. I will read it as Hojusai Hirochika than. I had examples of Hirochika writing "Hojusai" that way. But was not sure about "親".
  22. Thank you Brian. After all I just made pictures with my camera instead of phone:)
  23. I am sorry for on the side pictures. I will make new ones and post soon.
