  1. Grey - It takes a lot to own up to ones mistakes, especially on a board like this. I have a ton of respect for you by sharing this story in helping others not make the same mistake. Best Wishes Dave
  2. Forgive the newbie question here . . . but if you try and send this to shinsa and it fails because of the mei, you can take off the mei and it will get papered then? Or can a sword get papered with Gimei? Best Wishes
  3. This sorta pisses me off that some people want to use this resource in that way. Who ever you are, learn some chill dude! ( I have other words I want to use here but I will behave). . . . .
  4. Good Thread! I am right there with you guys and a beginner as well. I think we are lucky to take up the study now because of all the information that is available to us through books, shows, and internet. Not to long ago this info was scarce to come by! Best Wishes
  5. Tom - Yes. If you can provide me a link or more info on the details for this show, I would gladly attend. Do they have a date or time yet? Thanks for the heads up!!! Best wishes
  6. Tom - Which show in Tulsa? I would enjoy one there as it is very close to me. Peter - Yes, hands on experience from people that can share your knowledge would be a great experience. Maybe we should try and get a few of us together. I would welcome that. I also have 2 blades I could bring for discussion. One has turned out very interesting as I purchased it from an estate sale and after having it for almost a year, it is beginning to show its "personality" so to speak. And I believe it to be a traditional made sword now. Although, my knowledge is quite limited. Just going off the properties of the blade after traditionally cleaning it for months now. (it had not been cleaned for years before I got it). The other is a wakizashi that has turned out to be a great study sword for me. Anyways, weekends for me are the only time I would be able to meet up. My work is very greedy. Ha. Best Wishes
  7. Jay - Magenta (Akamurasaki) All the way! Goto Fittings!!! Any chance you can post a pic of them? Sincerely,
  8. Tom, Nice to meet you. I believe we are the only 2 people on the board from Oklahoma. Very cool. There is talk about a sword show in Texas for the future. Check out the sword show section of the board. Best Wishes
  9. Geraint - I appreciate your information very much! Thank you. Brian - That is exactly what I did. Took the pic, then put them to my pc, then posted them. There is no rotation before I posted to the board. My other posts of pictures do not have this problem either. Best Wishes
  10. Thank you Mark for your reply. No school then, I am assuming? Steven - There was nothing to rotate. It was not taken at 90 degrees.
  11. Hello Tom, I live in North Oklahoma! Where do you live in Oklahoma, Tom?
  12. I have no clue why the pics are set up sideways here when I took the pic upright? Odd.
  13. Hello all, I am currently building up my reference material on tsuba, so I do not have any books that show examples of this type of design. The closest thing I am finding online for a school is Mino, maybe? I am curious what your thoughts are on this and what the period might be too. Any help will be greatly appreciated. The Size: 7.0 x 6.3, Thickness is 0.4cm, 108g. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
  14. Stephen, I hope so too. It would be a great experience to meet you and other members in person. Not to mention, seeing some great collections up close. I will bring a napkin for my drool! . LOL
  15. Hello Stephen, Hope you are well man. I am in Oklahoma. We have a ton of Gun Shows here but nothing to do with any Japanese Arts.
  16. I am a little late to this thread . . . But yes please Kurt! I have never been to one before and this would be within a 4-5 hour drive of me. I wish there was more going on in the central part of the US. =/. Would this be on a weekend, Hopefully?
  17. Hey guys, I just got my book and have been reading it over the last week. This has got an insane amount of information for a beginner. I find it very easy to follow and if there are any new enthusiasts to the hobby, this is a must have for your collection. Incredibly in depth. A special thanks to everyone who made this book happen. I am positive that I will enjoy this for years to come. Dave
  18. You all bring up good points and I can understand what you mean here. Plus it is nice to see higher end items on the bay to purchase. However, I think this way of doing business will hurt him or others who practice this, in the long run. It would be better for them to just keep the "Buy it Option" with a "Make Offer" available, that way, they will not lose money in their investment. But that is just me. I won't know any of the sellers personally on the bay, so perception of how that (seller does business) is all I would be able to go on. Dave
  19. The seller to watch here is ericowazamono. He has had at least 3 items sell then show up again on his list as a "Buy It Now" option, at about 40% higher than what it was suppose to sell as. Not to mention that all his auctions have private bidder listings for who bids on his items. Here is an example: He sold this here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUPERB-17th-C-SHINTO-KATANA-NORIYUKI-FULL-EDO-MOUNT-Japanese-Samurai-sword/272770427120?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 His relisting here http://www.ebay.com/itm/17th-C-Japanese-SWORD-SHINTO-KATANA-034-NORIYUKI-NTHK-034-FULL-EDO-SAMURAI-MOUNTS-/272784163933? Kinda shady if you ask me. But you make up your own mind. Just wanted to share what I noticed Dave
  20. Thanks Bruno, I appreciate the information and reply. Dave
  21. Oops, Posted off my phone and the title had typos. Sorry about that. Dave
  22. Here is the link http://www.ebay.com/itm/252941002829?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT# I was wondering if this is edo period or just a modern piece? Never seen one like it before. Thanks Dave
  23. Grey - You are quite right. I do not take any offence to your words here, actually just the opposite. I would never use any cleaning agent on any part of a Japanese sword; however, Ken had mentioned that he might have to use a polishing agent to get the rust/volcanic dust off his tsuba. So, if he is going to have to use something I was wondering if any of the long term collectors ever tried this product before? Looks like that would be a definite NO. Dave
  24. Has anyone used this before? http://www.homedepot.com/p/Workshop-Hero-1-gal-Metal-Rescue-Rust-Remover-Bath-WH290487/203247483 In addition to being new to sword collecting, I also collect Metal Lunch Boxes. (Nerd alert) I have used this on the old school thermos that comes with the lunch box. If you use it correctly, it works great without damaging the graphics. I have never used this on iron or copper based metals before. But it should have the same affect. Dave
