  1. HAHA, This is the best heading on this site! I was like. . . Tsuba Porn Videos??? Maybe they can be used as tassels? Although, I would not recommend it! Enjoyed the videos though. Dave
  2. Yes. . . I'm in as well!! Dave
  3. Thanks Guys! I appreciate your feedback. Jean - Ya, after I posted this. . . I noticed my mistake and wished I had not used it. Thanks for your help. Sincerely Dave
  4. Hello Members, Hope everyone is having a good weekend. I finally received my new wakizashi sword in the mail. I about freaked out because I found a flaw close to the tip of the sword which was not in the pics on this item I purchased. At first I thought this might be a Karasuguchi (Crow's Beak) but it really looks like a Fukure the more I look at it. I was hoping to get some of your opinions on this issue. If this flaw is fatal then I will have to return the item. *sigh Thanks for your time Dave
  5. Piers, HA! You speak the absolute truth here. If you set the xyz-phone camera to take a manual picture, you can just about control everything just like a dslr camera. I am definitely "picking up" what you are "putting down". I have to admit that if pictures were not allowed. . . I would probably still take or try and take a picture of the rare piece I was looking at. Especially if it is of a National Treasure or some art that I would never get a chance to see again. I know that is horrible of me to admit but I would not be able to help myself. (I would take the flash off though) Dave
  6. Piers, LOL, No doubt. . .When average cell phone megapixels are 15 - 22, that is not serious at all. But good that we can take pics now. Dave
  7. Thank you Malcolm. Everyone's help means a great deal. Dave
  8. Bruce - You are right. To bad we cannot all get together a talk swords in person. Would be fun. But at least we got the internet. I was wondering if there is a way to compare these stickers to get a date on when they were used? Also, have you seen this sticker on a Kai Gunto before? Just curious? Thanks for you time. Neil - Great Find man! Until this post I had no clue what this sticker was about. Amazing what one can learn on this board. Dave
  9. Ian Brooks, Nice to meet you. This is a huge help and thank you for your translation. I am going to begin looking into what information I can find out about him. Sincerely, Dave
  10. Here is another couple of views. You can see it a little better. Thanks Dave
  11. Hey all, Stephen - I need to aplogize to you. Looks like I was the one being salty and I read your post wrong Brian - (This is going to be a stupid question) The name Kawamura Tadatsuna . . . Is the Tadatsuna here his sir name or just a name used to sign his swords? I noticed when looking up other sword smiths, some would use a sword name to sign their swords and not their sir name. Just wondering if their was a normal practice here. Also I had no idea that so many smiths are still unidentified. John - I did not know the difference between a Showato or a Gundaito sword until a few weeks ago. I hope this would be a Gundaito but I have to admit that I am more into answering the mysteries this sword is presenting me. I appreciate your post. Paul - Thanks for that. This is my first sword I ever owned. Malcolm and Bruce - WOW, this sticker will show where it was purchased?? Or at lease where the Koshirae was purchased? I am amazed that his sticker has stayed on all this time. I will post close up pics of this. After looking into all the material given for me to check out . . . It looks like Seki area. It is nice to meet all of you and I appreciate everyone's help and feedback. It means a great deal to me. Thanks Dave
  12. Stephen, Besides your sarcasm . . .Did I miss something here? Did I not follow the proper way of posting the pics? Translating = Tang and capture tag? Military swords = Kai Gunto? Or are you just being salty? Help us new members understand the proper way if I did not do it right! Sincerely, Dave
  13. Hello Stephen, Nice to meet you. Sorry that I did not post the link. Here is the Nakago Pic http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/22327-kai-gunto-translation/ Thanks, Dave
  14. If you are interested I posted the capture tag here http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/22360-capture-tag-help/ Thanks Dave
  15. Hello all, Hope everyone is having a good Sunday afternoon or Monday morning based on where you are in the world. I was hoping to get some help translating this tag. I have to admit. . .I had a hell of a time trying to use one hand to flatten out the tag then take the picture. So if you need additional pictures please let me know. I have also posted the Kai Gunto here if you are interested in looking at the sword. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/22359-just-want-to-share-my-kai-gunto-navy-officer-sword/ Thanks, Dave
  16. Hello all. I will be posting the capture tag on this sword in the translation section of the board soon. But I wanted to share my sword I purchased at a estate sale which got me into learning everything I can about Japanese swords and the makers behind them. I do have one question for everyone . . . Is it possible that this sword is older than WWII era because I cannot find any detail on the smiths sir name for this sword? OR . . . Is it more likely this smith is just lost because many swords that were from this era were destroyed? I do have to admit that I have not really looked up "Kawamura" (smith maker) history through the years if there is any. Sincerely, Dave
  17. Thank you Barry and Greg! Nice to meet you guys! Dave
  18. Hello Steve, Thanks for your reply and help. I really appreciate everyone's feedback. The symbol イ does not seem to relate to anything and is also used with the 4 (note the black writing) which is found on the other parts of the gunto. I was wondering if the 1 and 3 could be related to Showa 13 = 1938? Just a thought. Also, It looks like the the red lettering is painted on a raised part of the tang which I have not seen before on other guntos. Usually the paint is just that, painted on the tang. I am a little surprised that no one can find any info on Kawamura (sir name) for the sword smith on this sword. Is it possible that this is older than ww2 era? Anyways, I appreciate everyone's time and feedback on this. This has a capture tag on it and I think I will included more pictures of this over the weekend and post them in the gunto section. Have a good day. Dave
  19. Hey crew! Just wanted to say hi to everyone. I am new on here and look forward to learning as much as I can from you all. Thanks Dave
  20. Thanks Joe, John and K Morita, I appreciated your insight. Is there a way to find more info out on these smiths somewhere? Also, can someone help me with the red writing on the bottom portion of the tang? Any info will be greatly appreciated. I would like to show my gratitude to this forum, so I will be putting in a donation for all the help. Anyways, thanks again. Dave
  21. Hello all. I am a new member on this message board. I was hoping to ask the other members if they can translate this signature. Also I was wondering about the red (paint) writing at the bottom of the tang? Is it the date the sword was made maybe? The black writing is the actual serial number because it is on the other parts of the kai gunto. If you need more pictures I can post more this weekend. This sword also came with a capture tag that I will need to post on here as well. Any info or links you think that will help out a new enthusiast will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dave
  22. What an amazing site! I have been reading through many posts and the knowledge you people have is very impressive. I am very new to Nihonto collecting and I hope to learn more from everyone's expertise, especially on what makes a great sword different from a good one and the makers behind them. I currently own a Kai Gunto and I will post pictures of the tang in the future because I am having trouble figuring out who the smith is. Anyways, I am happy to be apart of this board. Tha...
