  1. Hi Kenny, I agree with John. Type 98 mountings and not a traditional made blade.

  4. I have only one picture to work with and the quality is unfortunately bad. To my untrained eyes a part of the mei reads kuni ju sadatsugu. Hope you guys can fill in the gaps. Thanks in advance. Regards, Ed
  5. Likely local smiths but there was also a Dutch production plant in Bandung (Java). They were producing the Klewang for the KNIL. The Klewang is a mix between a sword and a machete. Everything was available to produce swords even skilled workers.
  6. @Bruce Pennington the picture of the mark is taken from a Dutch site. https://www.marktplaats.nl/v/verzamelen/militaria-tweede-wereldoorlog/m2307382007-japans-officiers-showato-katana-1940-1945-gunto-stijl

  10. Dean, In your search for a retention strap you can search for other types of retention straps as well.
  11. Thank you, Steve!
  12. Any ideas on this one? Thanks in advance. Regards, Ed
  13. @WillFalstaff You can use leather wax. I use a thin coat of petroleum jelly. Cheap and gives a good result. Used it for more than 40 years to preserve leather liners of German helmets.
