  1. Right you are X shi also means death....much like my post of late.
  2. Gimei huh...fig...can't we get that one great story anymore. Note to newbies..dont sell your books when you're hardup...the money gets spent, then you're right back where you were without the books ill drop the poll guess to 8000 as to where it ends.
  3. anyone care to poll where this will go? http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-Japanese-S ... dZViewItem
  4. a good smith would have destroyed the blade.
  5. Anne and all has anyone ever heard of wax on the end of the nakago? any new pix yet Antelope?
  6. yes they can do that and you dont have to worry about the tsuka coming off
  7. just got your Jpg open...now 100% sure ...not good sorry
  8. the kind that's not true Nihonto...sorry to say its a modern reproduction of a katana, unless someone went to the trouble to place repo fittings on a old blade which we really cant see. im 99.99999% sure its a repo also. wish i had better news.
  9. Following on from a previous thread on the sword itself at viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3259 ..Not to cause head sctraching.... Anne the tsuba mei is upside down i tride to copy to do a 180 but you have good photo copy protection. Tsuba pix are taken with the mune side down. Sorry i cant read it.
  10. Guido NO! why do we have to be??? its from her antilope tag, as far as the wrap goes id ask David first.
  11. Hi Auntie Yep pretty nice sword you have there. Its too bad that someone unwrapped the Ito on the tsuka, if your looking to have it re wrapped correctly id give David McDonald a try, he has done a few for me and his work is top notch for stateside. here's his link. http://www.montanairon.com/tsukamaki.html no need to send the whole sword just the tsuka with nuk's. Tsuba has pine needle motif looks to be iron, tsuba guys can tell you more about it. the same* looks good with the black lacquer the sanded to reveal the nodules, nice Koshirae all around. Sencho is right we'd like to see pix of the blade as you may have seen in other post, full shots of the blade gives us the overall impression of the blade. out of saya, sans habaki, one where we can see the sori and sugata. Your grandfather had a good eye, as you do, nice slide show...now more blade!!
  12. you got that right suffer it is, like grandma use to say a watched auction does not boil, the hangers for the kaigunto sat for days until the last 9sec then went from 40 to 90 to 120 to 165+change in less that six sec.
  13. Gena GGGGeeeena mama mia!!!
  14. Larry to answer your question No! not all of us can afford a a lot of swords and to have a good sword of each size is a good collection in my book. Take your time (years) and I think a good range would be daito Koto...shoto Shinto...Tanto Shinshinto. and all the above post is right, only fantasy stuff comes in sets of three.
  15. Im sure i speak for more than a few here, we love for you to share pix of your Grandfathers sword/tsuba and any work youve done in nanako, did you find us via Fords great site? Feel free to ask any question about your sword, lot of great Nihonto brains to pick on this board.

  22. LOL it worked, cant raise it anymore it has a bid...
  23. Yes! very nice thanks for taking time Bugsy
  24. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=014 added a Kozuka with the starting price of 15.00 no bids in a day, ten watchers and no bids, did they think they would come in at the last min and get a deal( one cant buy a good sound signed blade at a show for less than what i raised the price too.) price is now $55.00 for today, and if no bids come in, will be 155.00 by Thursday, it is at least good for filling the slot on ones mounts, or ones kozuka that needs a blade.
