Looking to add to my Soshu collection. I can only make payments so if you need full payment in advance? Can't do it. I know how rare Soshu den items are but a couple of members have responded and I now have a whole two in my collection. I won't expect delivery until paid in full. Thanks guys!

Jason, hadn't considered that. Still it seems that if the entire blade was exposed to salt water, wouldn't it have had the same effect on all of it? Or are you suggesting only the nakago was exposed? Maybe by the tsuka being soaked on a ship? Or does that indicate that someone purposely soaked the nakago in salt water to "age" it?

Gentlemen, thank you for your comments. Since you haven't told me what I want to hear that obviously proves you wrong. And leo? I heard from a friends cousins' girlfriend that Chris was wrong once back in the '70's. It's rumored he wore bell bottoms so... yeah. Seriously though it's disappointing that it's probably gendaito. I see what you mean Chris, (after hitting a lot of books) it seems likely that the nakago has been exposed to water or worse but I'd never have seen it without you pointing it out. Thanks again guys! Until this thread Stephen I had no idea what ubu ba was. Now I do. Hope I see you all at the chicago show.

Nope. Not the same one. This is the "wavy hamon" sword. He's got a zillion of them. ("Zillion" being a relative term.) No signature. Any ideas on what it might be? Still learning this new setup. Hope these get your juices flowing! Steven

Katana authenticity: should I wait for a show?
bone replied to oyhou's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
Yup. Afraid he's right. One curious thing is the hamon actually raised above the blade? BTW if you want something real that's inexpensive there was one on the for sale thread you should take a look at. Hang in! -
What the??? Someone on this board is probably on ebay right now getting ready to pay more for a lot less. My guess is most newbies don't even look at the for sale section 'cause there's almost never anything there on the cheap. Their loss really. I've got a few bucks coming my way in the next 4 to 6 weeks soooo... if this doesn't sell please shoot me PM? This is a GREAT BUY at this price! C'mon peeps! Beat me out and pick up a shinto or shinshinto at a lot less than you'll pay for junk on ebay. If you don't... probably won't see anything offered here again at anywhere near this price. Maybe there could be a sub-thread in for sale? Bargain basement priced items? Anyway, thanks again Mark. Never thought this would last so long.

Ākāśagarbha? Maybe?

Not geisha but still reeeeaally cool. There's a festival where they wear masks... God! I hate my dying memory. Someone help me out here.

Thanks Chris! It's really cheap right now but will probably jump up a lot at the end. As always my most serious thanks.

Wait.. Kanesada?

Yah. The nakago looks really weird so I figured gimei. But a guy can hope right? Anyway. I still love the hamon. Despite the signature being fake what do you think about the rest of the blade. It could be any era I guess but a hamon like that leaves an ignorant fool breathless. Which is why I ask on here.

Point well taken Chris. Yes Chevy is a good car if it's a 68 Camaro in perfect shape. Not a 78 with fenders whose colors don't match and the engine smokes a bit. This sword has a wild hamon, is in great polish and is beautiful. So I'm guessing 1k would be a decent price no matter which one of the smiths it is. One thing I learned here and has become my mantra now. Buy the sword not the signature. Thanks for reminding me of that. Happy Thanksgiving! You guys rock! *laugh* Sometimes with real rocks but that keeps me grounded. I always appreciate feedback positive or negative and I ALWAYS pay attention to what you say Chris. Thanks again.

Notice from Kazushige Tsuruta
bone replied to BIG's topic in Sword Shows, Events, Community News and Legislation Issues
As a famous man once said; If at first you don't succeed try, try again. Then quit. There's no sense being a damned fool about it. As for me I've settled on concentrating on one school and only waks and katana. I long ago realized I don't have the wherewithall to reach the heights that many people on this board have. Also there's that whole money thing... -
