Bungo Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 seen it before somewhere but not sure about the school........doesn't look Shoami to me but then if it's not something else then it must be a Shoami. there's bones on the mimi. milt the ronin Quote
Rich T Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Akasaka, mid Tadatoki or something like that, earlier would not or most likely not have bones. Similar to many Ko Shoami, early Edo and Momoyama Shoami have bones. Have a look at Mo's site I think. This theme is commonly seen with a solid diagonal section to the design. Are those missing bits intentional ?. Have a look at Jim's site http://home.earthlink.net/~jggilbert/shoami.htm cheers Rich Quote
Martin Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Hi Milt, maybe this one ? http://www.nihonto.us/KO%20SHOAMI%20SQUARE.htm regards, Martin Quote
Nobody Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Hi, I do not know the exact motif of the tsuba. But I cannot help connecting it with mochi (餅: rice cake) and ami (網: grill). Quote
Guido Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 You're cracking me up, Koichi! However, not being too fond of Mochi, I'd rather associate it with Yakiniku. :D Quote
Rich T Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Well I'd rather eat Thingo Bitsa with this guy and get ANOTHER one of those hangovers LOL Mr Guido Schiller Left to right, Mr Henry Wilson, Mr Koichi Moriyama and Mr Craig Harris I have more somewhere, I will dig them out. This is from the inaugural NMB dinner in Tokyo. Steve, what was that restaurant ?. Just some fun after a long long day. Rich Quote

All very distinguished and scholarly looking gentleman..how are they going to cope with this young novice I wonder? Brian Quote
Rich T Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 don't go drinking with these loonys, they put Gordon R to shame. (read my kind of people) My lord Rich Quote
dirk marshall Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 Would the second tsuba be shoami as well? Ko-shoami? (Edited for size - Brian) Quote
Henry Wilson Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 I look a bit miserable in that picture. I don't think I usually look like that. I think a cross pattern motif on the tsuba represents a well cover. Look forward to more pics Richard Quote
sencho Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 ...it's tough trying to master the proper Japanese photo pose, Henry.... ("little finger and ring finger in towards the palm..... index and middle out.... spread.... thumb in towards the little and ring... yes I think I have it.... DAMN... they took the picture already!!!") We need to take photo lessons from Moriyama san too, it seems!! :D cheers! Quote
