Rich S Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 This is way beyond my meager (non-existent) translation skills. Not my sword. Posting it for a friend. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance. Rich S Quote

Rich S Posted March 21, 2011 Author Report Posted March 21, 2011 John - Thanks, I assume that is just the long inscription. Now tell me what it says :-) Any takers on the short one? I assume (?) it is a date. Rich S Quote
pcfarrar Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Taisho 4th year (1915), 10th Month? Sword by the same smith here: http://www.to-ken.com/swordregister/No110.htm Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Hi Rich, Made by Toshitane Enju Taro Kunitoshi living in Higo 17th generation of Enju Kunimura. The Kunimura that Kunitoshi claims descent from must be the founder of the Enju Ha of Higo, Rai Kunimura 1275-1303. John Quote

Markus Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Higo ju Enju Kunimura jusichidai Toshitane Enju Taro Kunitoshi tsukuru. I think anyway, Rich. John Sorry for being a pedant but it does not read "Toshitane" but "kô´in" (後胤) which means "descendant, scion". Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Hi Markus, As soon as I saw you had posted I knew I must have bollocked up something. After reading the smith I relied on Hawley to speed up the process and of course therein lay my error, he had Toshitane which was one heck of a long name. Of course 後胤 kouin. Pedantry is good, it illuminates laziness. Toshitane is not even close, bad Hawley. John Quote
k morita Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Hi, Yes, 後胤 "kouin" is correct. And date is October ,1916. Quote
