Must be this end then. I’ll shovel some more coal into my iPad. One day I’ll get some better tech….or maybe not🙂

In my case the tech is probably Ok, but I need a five year old to show me how it works!

A colleague of mine at work, her two and a half year old daughter got round the code on her mobile phone and called the firebrigade!:o Me, well making calls is about all I can do with my mobile phone anyway, but to be honest, making calls is all I want a phone for anyway!

Yeah, saw it was slow this morning and had them reboot the server.
I think we are sometimes hitting max memory and resources, maybe due to bots and AI harvesting.
I am going to need to consider moving to other hosting, the problem is if we go to cloud hosting by the software providers, I'm going to need to come up with an additional $100+ a month, and that is certainly not an easy task.
Giving everything some thought as to what I will do, but for now everything should be ok.
The internet is changing, and AI is data harvesting at a crazy rate and hammering websites, along with repeated bot attacks, and anyone running a website is seeing changes to the way hosting has to be managed.
I'm on it though. Sorry for the downtime.

A quote from one of the software developers:
"Nearly 60% of all internet traffic is now from bots and they consume content 6 times faster than humans"
It's not so easy to just block AI Bots and do rate limiting. Technology is getting around blocks and hammering sites.
Another quote, this time regarding clamping down on VPNs...
"I find that when I'm on our company VPN, I'm challenged on almost every site I use. It's a sad state of the internet honestly, but at one point a site that usually gets 200k requests in a day got 90 million, and we had to pay for all that junk traffic - and that was just a single site."
Scary stats.

And depending on what your site is and what the average user profile is, it can unfortunately be much higher (like the 90 million request site you mentioned).

Going to look at pushing forward the update and maybe moving towards Cloudflare etc, so see if I can mitigate the hammering on the server.

This was a bad one for me today.

Cloudflare?

On two other sites now that I use regularly, so I hate the damn thing with a vengeance, with the extra silly jiggle to log in, but maybe Cloudflare just starts to make sense here too, unfortunately.

Today, 26th of August CET the site was painfully slow to load. Most of the times  i got the site unreachable page, re-trying several time to reload the page at the end the page loaded.

Now it seemed to be working normally.
