Juan Posted June 16 Report Posted June 16 Can anyone identify the two characters written in black ink on the underside of a Japanese wooden Daruma sculpture? Quote
ROKUJURO Posted June 16 Report Posted June 16 Juan, we have a special translation section, where the NIHONGO experts will see your post. To my untrained eye, the first two photos look upside-down. Quote
MauroP Posted June 17 Report Posted June 17 The second kanji should be 乾; still unable to find a suitable candidate for the first one. 1 1 Quote
Juan Posted June 17 Author Report Posted June 17 Thank you very much! Could these two characters possibly read 定光 (Jōkō / Sadamitsu), or is this a different reading? Quote
Nobody Posted June 18 Report Posted June 18 The second kanji is 乾 as @MauroP said. I cannot decipher the first kanji. I thought it looked like 夲 ( 夲 - Wiktionary, the free dictionary ). However, even if it is 夲, I cannot understand 夲乾. 2 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted June 18 Report Posted June 18 岸 also seems possible, though it may not help. 2 Quote
