Itomagoi Posted Sunday at 09:50 AM Report Posted Sunday at 09:50 AM Hello, I would be grateful if someone could translate this signature for me. 1 Quote
Gormo75 Posted Sunday at 10:38 AM Report Posted Sunday at 10:38 AM There is definitely mention of Kaneharu but that is it Quote
Shugyosha Posted Sunday at 11:15 AM Report Posted Sunday at 11:15 AM 大和守口口作 - Yamato kami blank blank saku. Looking down the list of smiths with the title "Yamato Kami" in Sesko's Compendium to try to fill in the blanks, a plausible option might be Ujinaga (氏命) based on the shapes I imagine I'm seeing but it's a bit of a guess. Do you have a better photo Peter or can you do anything to highlight the strokes in these kanji to make them a little clearer? 3 Quote
Itomagoi Posted Monday at 09:20 AM Author Report Posted Monday at 09:20 AM Thanks Ray, but unfortunately I can't find 大和守外永作 in Markus Sesko's list of honorary titles at Yamato no Kami. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted Monday at 02:47 PM Report Posted Monday at 02:47 PM Some good photos Peter, but it still remains a tough one! What about 関 永 ? Did a smith exist named MORINAGA? I have no books on swords, unfortunately. Quote
Yumso Posted Monday at 04:58 PM Report Posted Monday at 04:58 PM (edited) I think it's 大和守則永作 https://nihontoclub.com/smiths/NOR224 https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/c1212387366 Edited Monday at 05:14 PM by Yumso Quote
Ray Singer Posted Monday at 05:54 PM Report Posted Monday at 05:54 PM Hi Yoon, my impression is that this has 'Yamato (no) kami' as a title rather than indicating production in Yamato ('Yamato no kuni' or 'Yamato ju'), as shown in that entry above. That said, I cannot locate another example of this mei. Quote

SteveM Posted Monday at 06:33 PM Report Posted Monday at 06:33 PM This sword is making a comeback... https://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/52639-help-please-on-mei/#comment-549487 I think there is a 3rd thread on this sword somewhere, where a couple of us suggested to try to reference the smith by looking up all the known smiths who were granted the "Yamato-no-kami" title. Markus has a reference with the titles and the smiths to whom they were granted. I looked at this list and couldn't find a plausible match for the name inscribed on this sword, so I gave up on it. 1 Quote
