Swords Posted September 22 Report Posted September 22 I thought this interesting provided it’s worth pursuing so I’ll throw this one out there for comments Don’t care for the saya Quote
Conway S Posted September 22 Report Posted September 22 Why not post in the Military Swords section? That seller’s description is all over the place so I wouldn’t place too much stock in that. It’s a Showa period sword. What do you find so interesting about it? Quote
John C Posted September 22 Report Posted September 22 1 hour ago, Swords said: comments Not sure about the sword, however the description is troubling. In the first sentence, he says it is signed Kaneshita (who?) then later says Kanemoto. All of the "rare" elements look pretty standard to me. The bit about the two mekugiana being "extremely rare" and "characteristic of truly old samurai blades" is just salesman speak. Indeed, the second mekugiana looks drilled to me and the nakago does not look like it has been around since 1501, as claimed. The flowery speech, over-the-top exultations about "rareness" and the mislabeling of Kaneshita would send me running. This is just my opinion and I could be wrong. John C. 3 1 Quote
Rawa Posted September 23 Report Posted September 23 It almost got 3rd mekugi ana. imo fake blade in cheap koshirae or fixed showato with grinded to match nakago. If it was type 3 mounting I would look closer to yasurime. Dunno about habaki. 1 Quote
Brian Posted September 23 Report Posted September 23 Nothing there makes me even want to look further. Quote
Trenchnut Posted September 23 Report Posted September 23 Looks like a recent marriage of blade and koshirae. Not sure for the blade, has definitly been helped a bit, if not entirely fake. Just my two cents. Buyer beware! Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted September 23 Report Posted September 23 What exactly did you find interesting about this? Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted September 23 Report Posted September 23 I've never seen a nakago with that type of finish. Does anyone think the mei is legit? I don't see a "Kane" there, but I'm not great at mei reading. Quote
