Jesta Posted Friday at 09:11 AM Report Posted Friday at 09:11 AM After a recent issue, I am presenting this one with my heart in my mouth I picked this one up from Jauce. It seems to show rice, either after it has been harvested, or just before. Definitely, iron, and highlighted with what looks like gold leaf. Any thoughts on it when it comes to authenticity, origins, etc? This one was not expensive and it looks and feels OK, but I remain very wary of buying from Jauce in general. Thanks in advance… 4 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted Friday at 09:25 AM Report Posted Friday at 09:25 AM It reminds me of tsuba created in the Nagato, Choshu area. Bit rusty, but personally, I like it. Any sizes available? 1 Quote
thutson Posted Friday at 10:18 AM Report Posted Friday at 10:18 AM Congrats, it looks like an authentic tsuba and I like the design showing an ear of rice with gold highlights. Looks like work by the Bushu school, I have a similar tsuba with gold highlighted water drops. 4 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted Friday at 11:02 AM Report Posted Friday at 11:02 AM Bushu would have been my second choice. Those water droplets... 1 Quote

Yours shows quite a bit more refinement, but I can see the stylistic similarities. Quote
Spartancrest Posted Friday at 11:54 AM Report Posted Friday at 11:54 AM Good one Justyn! Some similar in this thread: From 2018 - I think they have one down as Chosu. Spartancrest Posted Friday at 01:50 PM Report Posted Friday at 01:50 PM It might be rude to ask how much was paid for the tsuba? Another signed example selling this week on Jauce https://www.jauce.com/auction/u1191124637 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted Friday at 03:11 PM Report Posted Friday at 03:11 PM “How did I do?” As Dale mentioned, it does depend partly on how much you paid… vs what your budget was, etc. As a tsuba, a decent shot, I reckon. 1 Quote
Curran Posted Friday at 03:24 PM Report Posted Friday at 03:24 PM Well... classic pretty rice plant design with some gold highlights. Either Choshu (West Coast main island) or Bushu (East Coast main island) and fairly solid for a first try. My first tsuba was a Choshu not as nice as this one. Several schools will have done this design. Because of some of the mimi geometry and general design, personally I lean more towards Bushu. Definitely better than my first tsuba or two. 2 Quote
