Copper Handle Sword for Review

Is this a ww2 era Sword?  Sorry for the quality of pictures, but it is all that I have at this time.  Unfortunately, the scabbard has a different number than the sword blade.

Yes Charles, a very nice and genuine example of the Pattern 1 Type 95 copper tsuka.  Only around 6.5k of these made.

 

Very collectable. Is that 5140 on the blade interesting to also know the unmatched number on the saya throat?

Looks 100% authentic to me too. The scabbard is correct for the copper model.  It would be uncommon to find a matching scabbard on these early swords.

The number is very lightly stamped on the Saya throat, but it appears to be either 3800 or 8800.

Well then go with 3800. 8800 would be too high for a scabbard without the drag.

Good score. Very desirable type 95. Probably worth $2000 min

I agree with what has been said above, I believe it's legit. Looks nice. A bucket list sword for me. 

Pattern 1, Type 95 Shin Gunto

When it comes to these hard to find Pattern 1 swords, one cannot be too picky about the saya matching. The fact that it's a saya for a copper handle, and not a pattern2 saya, is a bonus. I've seen these go for big money lately.
