Grey Doffin Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Hi guys, I sold a sword to someone in France last month and today it came back to me. The buyer never received it; the French post office marked it return but gave no reason why. Do any of you know why? Didn't think swords were banned in France. Thanks, Grey Quote
Jean Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Hi Grey, Several options : - Full address of the destinee was lacking/wrong - no Phone number - - The sword was detained by the forwarding agent in France (Chronopost International) on behalf of Customs for tax purposes - Letter was sent to the Customer : -never received - never claimed ===> shipped back - In all probabilities, Customer was not advertised by Chronopost International the sword was at the airport =====> unclaimed for 14 days ===> sent back I am going to give you unvaluable information which should be sent to your Customer : Chronopost Internationnal Service Disjoint Douane 9 rue du Haut de Laval Zone de Fret 7 BP 10506 95709 ROISSY CDC Tel : 0825 801 801 FAX: 01 41 84 47 76 Email : d_douane@chronopost.fr Just have to mention the tracking number. Took me some inquiries to get this. Now a Proforma must be sent to gether with the object. You shall find attach the model to be used, no other one or your correspondent will wasre hours on the phone to understand what people are requesting (I had to do it for a friend of mine - I know what I am talking about - the sword was cleared the same day) Be sure to scan the Proforma Invoice and send a copy to your Customer If you need help and if I can be of any, please feel free. pROFORMA INVOICE.doc Quote
Jean Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 PS : No ban on Japanese swords in France Quote
loui Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 I've never had a problem shipping to france, but my shipper always tells me to have the phone number on the package, not sure if you did or not. Too bad - I hate shipping hassles. Try again! Good info above as well. Quote
Ed Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Grey, I have sent 4-5 swords to France, without difficulty. Sounds like Jean has given you all the info needed. The only thing I would add is with the "proforma" or Invoice. I always attached one to the outside of the box and boldly mark it "Customs Invoice" and also send a copy via e-mail to the customer to have when claiming the item. Quote
Gunome Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Hello, Does this shipping has a tracking number ? If so, french receiver should seen on chronopost web site what's the mater and contact them with tracking id. I already received a sword that was hold by chronopost's customs services waiting an invoice. I ask seller to send a copy by mail and forward the mail to chronopost. The parcel was cleared. If I haven't seen this matter on chonopost's site, may the parcel would be sent back to Japan. Sébastien Quote
