Name of this swirl decoration on saya

Hello, I have a saya with this decoration in it and found this pic in a Ginza magazine. I know the abalone if Aogai but what are the swirls called and made from? I believe they look like sanded rattan.

Does the page have any writing or caption in Japanese that might be a description of the design/technique? 

 

I've never seen it before. Looks quite unique.

I wonder if the work is related to these "record" tsuba that have the whole surface done in concentric circles? I don't know the correct term but I am sure there is one.

No, the caption only describes the abalone using Aogai. It’s very unique so far but hell may be a meh to some of these folks

Try 螺旋 Rasen, ゼンマイ Zenmai spiral, 模様 moyou (pattern).

Looks good, quite unique and nice. My eyes are giving in. Are they concentric circles or a spiral?
