Identification help

Can anyone tell me anything about this one, found on a local FB page. Just trying to give the owner any info possible. Has a mon. Obviously not the original scabbard?

Cavalry Kyu Gunto, the backstrap indicates company grade. The Saya is likely original.

Is it only the length that makes you think that it possibly isn't the original scabbard Brian?

Yeah. Not collecting military swords aside from Katana, I know very little about these. I leave it up to the experts. Thanks all.

I'm no bayonet guy, but that's a bayonet frog.  If original, the owner must have lost/damaged his sword belt and gotten creative!

With no mekugi-ana or habaki, this is the dress version, so doubtful it would have been used in any combat capacity.

Spot on Bruce.  It's a Type 30 Arisaka bayonet frog.  By the look of the wear on the buckle strap, it has been on the ashi ring for a while.
