rodrig4 Posted September 1, 2023 Report Posted September 1, 2023 Good morning. here is this fushi and kashira set that I recently acquired. It is dated according to the seller from the MEIJI period. I decoded among the kanji of the signature a kane and a mitsu without being able to translate entirely. I thank you in advance if you can fix it. RG. Quote
Brian Posted September 1, 2023 Report Posted September 1, 2023 The aesthetic appears very un-Japanese to me. I hope I'm wrong, but these look Chinese to me, with the mei cast in. 4 1 Quote

Bugyotsuji Posted September 1, 2023 Report Posted September 1, 2023 PS 縁 is usually written 'fuchi' in English, and pronounced like 'futchi' or even 'futschi'. (Fushi is a different word 節 meaning joint, knot or melody.) 2 Quote
Matsunoki Posted September 1, 2023 Report Posted September 1, 2023 Sadly brand new Chinese and poorly cast. Sorry to disappoint. EBay is full of similar. 2 1 Quote
Guest Simon R Posted September 6, 2023 Report Posted September 6, 2023 There is a current exhibition of swords, fittings and armour in the Nezu Museum (which is just around the corner from where I work). I visited it on Sunday, and these photos show some of the Meiji period masterpieces on display. Enough said. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted September 6, 2023 Report Posted September 6, 2023 Thanks Simon! By the way, Kashira is just one way of reading the Kanji 頭, (Atama) head. This is spelt with ‘sh’ in English because it has a soft mushy sound in it. (Like my head.) So the title should be Fuchi/Futchi/Futschi and Kashira, for anyone who is confused by the title of this thread! Quote
