Tensho Posted June 20, 2023 Report Posted June 20, 2023 Help please on this writing on back of photo. Didn’t realize it was there originally. Cleaned the glue and black backing off to reveal the below. Thank you. 1 Quote

Bugyotsuji Posted June 20, 2023 Report Posted June 20, 2023 Probably 'Fukuda Kei'. (Kei or Takashi) 福田 敬 2 Quote
robinalexander Posted June 21, 2023 Report Posted June 21, 2023 General question .... I imagine as an Aviation Troop Leader this person would be an officer. Now this person looks like a female (could be wrong though) ... I didn't know the Japanese had female officer pilots in during the war, but then again, until now I've never had any reason to ask. Rob An appropriate translation for 飛行兵長 is Flight corporal. So, he is not an officer. And the person is definitely a male. 1 Quote
robinalexander Posted June 21, 2023 Report Posted June 21, 2023 Thankyou Koichi-san... I appreciate your enlightenment. Quote

I was thinking maybe a female who disguised her identity in order to fight. But I guess a young male could also disguise his true age for the same reason. Thank you to Moriyama for the clarification. Si quelqu'un est intéressé par la photo : With this photo and especially the name, I don't know if there are still archives available to know if he survived the war... I'm still curious. Where did you find this photo, with the gunto? Quote

I'm still curious. Where did you find this photo, with the gunto? Photo was purchased from a vintage Photograph seller. Mainly bought for Gunto mounting references. The writing was a complete surprise to me. I agree with you, it would be nice to know about the pilot. One would have to be fluent in Japanese to find out anything I'm sure. 1 Quote
dimitri Posted June 21, 2023 Report Posted June 21, 2023 Maybe ask the Japanese in the group if such archives already exist? Quote

Some of them were a real bear to clean. Several of mine had army inspection stamps so I assume they had been sent home from the field. John C. 1 Quote
