yogoro Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 Please assistance in translating the mei on the attached tsuba. Last kanji are not so clear. Mikolaj Quote
Brian Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 Mikolaj, Very nice tsuba. You do realise you are going to drive Ken nuts with this one? I suggest you think of what you would trade it for now...before he pitches up here. (Ken, the "mantis-dude") Brian Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 The Mei seems to read 廣峰斎 Kohosai 日随 Nissui??? I like this tsuba too! Quote
Nobody Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 I agree with Piers on the reading. More precisely, the actual kanji seem to be written in these variant forms. 廣峯齋日隨 – Kohosai Nichizui? However; I am unsure but the second last kanji might not be 日, because only the character is a little smaller than other characters in the mei. It might be a faded other kanji. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 Koichi san, I finally went for Nissui, (or maybe your Nichizui is better), because I found that actual name 日随 (in your variant form) in a list of known Tsuba makers. The pronunciation was not listed, but the name was listed according to the Japanese alphabetical order under 'Ni' 二 in the book. Quote
yogoro Posted July 20, 2009 Author Report Posted July 20, 2009 Thank you Piers and Koichi san , I think that last two kanji are 旦随 ??? here is better photo Quote
Mantis dude Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 I am continuing to kick myself on this tsuba. Mikolaj was kind enough to share it with me when he got it. He didn't know but I was actually the underbidder on it and didn't think there was any competition for it so I didn't put a high bid in. So instead of having 70 tsuba, I only have 69. At least if Mikolaj ever sells it, I know how much he paid. . Wait it is definately a gime and it is junk, he should just get it out of his collection. I will be a friend and take it from him. lol. All the best. Quote
sencho Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 I thought I saw 4 horizontals within the box of the second to last kanji 目 且 自 耳 I think I see more markings above the box too now we have the close up.... You would expect this too, with the proportions of the other kanji.... 首 賀 貸 賞 貨 宜 just wildly guessing here..... I like this tsuba, very pleasing! Cheers Quote
