EMR516 Posted December 25, 2022 Report Posted December 25, 2022 Good friend of mine recently purchased this Shin Gunto in early type 94 mounts with Kanemoto Mei. Looking for information on the 2 character Mei in particular (Real ? & what Generation ?) Any other information that can be added is much appreciated too! Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted December 25, 2022 Report Posted December 25, 2022 Can you please show further photos of the mounts? Quote
John C Posted December 25, 2022 Report Posted December 25, 2022 The dark "plumes" coming from the hamon near the habaki remind me of oil quenching, which would make it Showato. John C. Quote
Ed Posted December 26, 2022 Report Posted December 26, 2022 This is obviously an oil quenched, non-traditionally made sword. There were several "Kanemoto" working in the Showa period (1926-1989). I remember there were a couple of Rikugun jumei tosho and maybe one Kaigun jumei tosho. At any rate this is NOT the famous Kanemoto you are hoping for. Probability 99.9999%. 2 Quote
Ooitame Posted December 26, 2022 Report Posted December 26, 2022 I agree, looks oil quenched. Also the patina on the nakago looks off. Quote
