Ivan Albright Posted November 1, 2022 Report Posted November 1, 2022 Hello, This sword was given to me as a gift and I need help identifying whether it is a real Japanese sword or a fake Chinese replica. Please let me know if these pictures will suffice or if you need other pictures. Thank you in advance for any help or advice.al Ple Quote
Grey Doffin Posted November 1, 2022 Report Posted November 1, 2022 Not 100% certain but best guess is not made in Japan. Grey Quote
Ray Singer Posted November 1, 2022 Report Posted November 1, 2022 Ivan, this appears to be a typical Chinese fake. Please see below for a link to help identify the red flags. http://www.jssus.org/nkp/fake_japanese_swords.html 3 Quote

The signature is 坂田義人一郎 and one possible reading is Sakata Yoshito Ichirō. This is just three names strung along one after the other. There is another sword in Russia with the same signature, but the date is 寛文十三年六月 (1673). 寬 = 寛 = 宽. 1 Quote
