oneshot onekill Posted May 29, 2022 Report Posted May 29, 2022 My Saya has tape residue all the way around it in 2 places. It appears to be where registration papers may have been taped to the outside like I've seen on some Shirasaya. Can that be removed without taking the lacquer with it? I can add pictures if need be. Thanks in advance, John Quote
b.hennick Posted May 29, 2022 Report Posted May 29, 2022 Typically shirasaya do not have lacquer applied to them. Quote
oneshot onekill Posted May 29, 2022 Author Report Posted May 29, 2022 Just now, b.hennick said: Typically shirasaya do not have lacquer applied to them. I must not have been clear. This is on my "Saya", not on a Shirasaya. I only used that as a reference. Quote

ROKUJURO Posted May 29, 2022 Report Posted May 29, 2022 Try cleaning benzine. That should work without attacking the URUSHI. Quote
Matsunoki Posted May 29, 2022 Report Posted May 29, 2022 In the uk we have a product called Zoff. It is used to remove the residue of first aid plasters from skin and will not affect lacquer. You probably have an “over the counter” equivalent from your local pharmacy/drug store? It is available over here in the form of individual wipes and liquid. The wipes are good. Hope it goes well. Grey Doffin Posted May 29, 2022 Report Posted May 29, 2022 Yes; Goo Gone. Find it at any hardware store. Grey Quote
oneshot onekill Posted May 30, 2022 Author Report Posted May 30, 2022 Goo Gone worked perfectly! Took about 30 minutes and I was nervous the whole time. Thank you! 1 Quote
