Tape adhesive on the saya. Can it be safely removed? (Pictures added)

My Saya has tape residue all the way around it in 2 places. It appears to be where registration papers may have been taped to the outside like I've seen on some Shirasaya. Can that be removed without taking the lacquer with it? I can add pictures if need be.

Typically shirasaya do not have lacquer applied to them.

I must not have been clear. This is on my "Saya", not on a Shirasaya. I only used that as a reference.

Try cleaning benzine. That should work without attacking the URUSHI.

In the uk we have a product called Zoff. It is used to remove the residue of first aid plasters from skin and will not affect lacquer. You probably have an “over the counter” equivalent from your local pharmacy/drug store? It is available over here in the form of individual wipes and liquid. The wipes are good. Hope it goes well.

Goo Gone worked perfectly! Took about 30 minutes and I was nervous the whole time.
