Tsuba with 8 corner?

This is from a shipwreck. I couldn't figure out what kind of tsuba is this. More-Gata? (Bad joke) Can you help me out please?

This was oddly not listed in some of my books on tsuba and not easily answered via google. 

 

Octagon is supposedly 'Hachikakukei' in Japanese so perhaps Hachikakukei gata is the or a fitting description for it😶

I'm trying to learn the story behind it. It might take a little time and study but these are from a deceased collector's grandfather. I'm calling "these" because there are 78 reasons for it. Wait for tomorrow. I have to make a room to take pictures
