VIPER Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 Hi fellows.............My recently awakened interest in Nihonto has spurred me into looking around for a couple of pieces to go with my Mihara Maschika. Thanks to all who helped with the translation and advice. I am looking for a nice Kai-Gunto example to go with it. Are there any dealers who have a nice selection or who have nice examples in stock. Also, Do you guys have any suggestions were I can find a field grade origional officers tassel in excellent condition. And just out of curiosity how much do General Officers tassels go for. Thanks for any advice or pointers you can give me. And yes I am in the process of building a reference library so I can study my new/old field of interest..................Thanks Again Jimmy Quote

Stephen Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 Maybe try Bill R here, he has a real nice Kyu gunto. http://www.artswords.com/index.html Quote
Brian Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 Kai Gunto or Kyu-Gunto? Btw...tassels are fairly common. Is the field grade officers tassel the brown and blue one, or just brown? Search for Japanese sword tassels and you will find a few. But they all tend to go between $150 and $250. As for the officer's ones with the gold thread...those are crazy prices and not seen often. I have seen them almost go for $1000. Brian Quote

Just make sure before you go out and buy a bunch of stuff that you've had your coffee (or tea) and a good breakfast. Alf Tan also has a nice selection of wartime (and earlier) stuff. http://www.japanesesword.com/ Good guy to deal with too. I've also delt with alf he is a good guy and generally his discriptions are right on the money, bought a tanto, after getting in hand felt it wasn't right for me and sent it back, there was NO problem, good man he is. da gooseman charles l. grusovnik Quote
