Ken-Hawaii Posted July 2, 2020 Report Posted July 2, 2020 Yes, they're visible. Okay, Sojy, now please remove the sheath, and take a few photos of the bare blade. And we post our first names so that you know how to address us. Quote

16k Posted July 2, 2020 Report Posted July 2, 2020 Hi and welcome, Sojy. pending more photos of the blade, we can already categorize this type of sword as a Kyu Gunto, à military sword from the Meiji period to the early 20th century. The blade will probably reveal other details, provided it is in good enough condition. 1 Quote
ChrisW Posted July 2, 2020 Report Posted July 2, 2020 More appropriately, this is a Type 19 Parade Sword. Not meant for actual combat. You can tell by the flaking of the chrome plating. There were combat variants and those are typically referred to as "Kyu Gunto". 4 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted July 2, 2020 Report Posted July 2, 2020 I agree, unless more clear pictures reveal a fighting blade, it's a Type 19, dress sword (sometimes called a parade sword). Very interesting mon on the end of the handle! Looks like a "Yin/Yang" inside a chrysanthemum? 1 Quote
ChrisW Posted July 2, 2020 Report Posted July 2, 2020 Sharp eye Bruce! They're interesting artifacts to own, I actually own two of them myself. It seems to be really hard to have one with fully intact plating. Even my best one has the plating chipped off the kissaki's very endpoint. Quote
Geraint Posted July 2, 2020 Report Posted July 2, 2020 Gentlemen. The second and fourth of the images show the blade. It has seen better days. All the best. Quote
