shakudo Posted May 19, 2020 Report Posted May 19, 2020 Yes cloisonne- not carved and I feel meji or later. Check the white line as Dale mentioned its not dirt- solder my best guess as as it doesnt match the other metal colours. Check the surfaces on all the spaces- no irregularites-carved?- dont think so! Saw it but came up with my conclusions as above. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted May 19, 2020 Report Posted May 19, 2020 Mike, no way!Cloisonné looks quite different, and what you see as application is in fact cut out. There is no technique that I know how you could produce such a soldered-on GURI-BORI style 'decoration' Quote
Curran Posted May 20, 2020 Report Posted May 20, 2020 That is a nice set you have there Surfson. For reference, another set in Japan: http://www.shoubudou.co.jp/products/detail.php?product_id=137 1 Quote
Tanto54 Posted May 20, 2020 Report Posted May 20, 2020 Dear Curran, When you say that Robert (Surfson) has "a nice set", which topic were you referring to - the Tanuki or the guribori??? 1 Quote
Curran Posted May 20, 2020 Report Posted May 20, 2020 Posted earlier, but the method is very clear. The interesting feature of the tsuba that Luis posted is that there appears to be a layer in the middle of each arabesque that must be a different metal and has corroded in each one of the motifs. I believe Robert (Surfson) owns the daisho set of guribori in that picture. Perhaps it is someone else on NMB? Quote

Thank you, Luis And it's a guri-bori piece. Needs a bit of professional attention on the ura side but it's in really good shape. May well be Okitsugu family if tagane-ato is confirmed. Quote
