LarryS Posted May 29, 2019 Report Posted May 29, 2019 Hello, I have a koto period katana that I am looking at sending off to get polished, and eventually papers in Japan. I was wondering If I could get some reccomendations on traditionally trained polishers in the USA or trustworthy agents who can arrange polish in Japan.Thank you! Quote
Grey Doffin Posted May 30, 2019 Report Posted May 30, 2019 Hi Larry, Bob Benson in Hawaii is classically trained in polish or he can arrange for polish in Japan. He also can get the sword in and out of Japan and arrange for paper. Grey Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted May 30, 2019 Report Posted May 30, 2019 Larry, Bob Benson's former polisher is Woody Hall <hawaii.togishi@yahoo.com>, who now lives in Las Vegas. He has polished many of my Koto blades, & is both fast & reasonable. Welcome, by the way. Quote
Rivkin Posted May 30, 2019 Report Posted May 30, 2019 I would say the answer strongly depends on the blade's level. If it is upper juyo or strong tj candidate I personally lack contacts which could be immediately tapped, but I would also strongly suggest asking advice at sokendo or some other very top dealer in Japan, and seeing if they agree to find someone best suitable for the particular style and condition. I don't have experience with Paul Martin so can't comment here, but very personally - I would not go with an agent with this particular task. If it is below - Bob Benson, Woody Hall. There are also a few polishers I don't have a lot of experience seeing their work first hand. Kirill R. Quote
