ww2colorado Posted May 17, 2019 Report Posted May 17, 2019 Guys i am to meet with a local seller that had shown me a couple blades, the first blade on top in dark saya i believe to be a mid war type98, and the other looks to be a decent blade in non military mounts? Possibly pre war? i will post a few pictures the seller has provided, i do not read much kanji. any help with translation would be much appreciated. I will ask for more pictures from the seller. The blade with orange red paint is the military mounted blade. And mei with black paint ia on the blade in non military mounts in plain wooden saya. I will ask for pictures of the other sides tomorrow as i think the seller may be unaware there may be a signature on both sides... And having trouble turning the last photo the right way Quote
Shugyosha Posted May 17, 2019 Report Posted May 17, 2019 Hi, Some of the photos are blurry, I can read one signature: TAKAMASA (高正), Shōwa (昭和, 1926-1989), Gifu – “Takamasa” (高正), real name Yasuda Yoshitarō (安田芳太郎), born April 7th 1912, he worked as guntō smith and a date which is September, Showa 18 (1943), Quote
ww2colorado Posted May 17, 2019 Author Report Posted May 17, 2019 shugyosha thank you very much for your information provided, it should be a decent blade to grab up Quote

Ed Harbulak Posted May 30, 2019 Report Posted May 30, 2019 Chuck, I hope you noticed that the one blade has a rather serious broken tip and some pretty deep chips in the edge. Are you really sure you want to purchase that blade? Quote
ww2colorado Posted May 30, 2019 Author Report Posted May 30, 2019 Yes i saw some terrible dings etc. I figure if ibcan snag it for 50 bucks it may make a neat wall hanger Quote
ww2colorado Posted May 31, 2019 Author Report Posted May 31, 2019 Update got the blades. Sometimes crap pictures can make things seem alot worse. And the kissaki did look snapped off in the sellers photo,it is rusty but there lol. Out of polish with chips.but this blade is super sharp i can shave my arm hair with it. I do love the bird themed tsuba , also fittings are blackened copper with a super neat dragon motif. I will ad some pictures. This blade has no mei.... But seems to be of quality. Will try for more pictures tomorrow. Any comments welcome! Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted May 31, 2019 Report Posted May 31, 2019 Civilian blade converted to military use it seems, nice Suguha Hamon, could be a Hizen blade. Quote
ww2colorado Posted May 31, 2019 Author Report Posted May 31, 2019 Anyone able to make a guess as to what era the fittings and tsuba may be from? The veteran brought back other goodies mostly photos and edged items. I will have to post more soon. The veteran had fought in okinawa Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted May 31, 2019 Report Posted May 31, 2019 Anyones guess, could be from war era from Edo period. Pictures of the Nakago would be good. Quote

raaay Posted May 31, 2019 Report Posted May 31, 2019 Hi Chuckpolitely please, remember to remove your finger prints from the blades , it is not recommended to handle the blades with your bare hands as you could leave a permanent finger print on the surface of the blade right above the habaki . you probably already know that Quote
