Hello Guys..

Shuichi Kato - Japan Sprit and Form

The Cosmos in the Hand : (

)

Along with his other presentations,

helped me a lot with understanding Japanese history/religion/culture.

It has, also,  driven me to "obsession".  :(.

but, I enjoy looking at each Tea Bowl from time to time.

Togishi Bob Benson was here last year.. Bob  too, likes Raku Bowls..

Made this video of the "New" wall display of Raku, and,, other  bowls and items..

Something to watch this weekend..

Hope you like it..  :)

Alton <  Ken is my middle (Japanese) name..  :)

My Dad said that is how they named  children in his days.. I think it is not pronounced like  'Barbie and Ken"  Ken.

Alton,

The Shuichi Kato video is excellent, I have always found his approach to various subject matter interesting and well considered. I enjoyed your new video, each one is a marked improvement on the one before, well done. It has that quality you mentioned you liked...the lighting is still moody and atmospheric yet all details are readily discernible. Quite a collection.

Cheers,

Alton,

Yes, the chawan has a great glaze full of character , I am sure it's charms were apparent to all.  I also look forward to seeing additional pictutes of "the vase" Axel mentions...that molten lava like surface is enticing.  Ditto on Kurosawa, he is brilliant.

.p.s.-I noticed the ceramic boxes, if you have others they could make an interesting video.

Hello Guys...  :)

Nezumi Shino

Is there a name for the Brush stroked "leaves" pattern, that is "synomous" with Shino's most popular 'Motifs".

Looks like Water reeds/grass. or, do they represent Rice?

Nezumi Shino Vase.  Has a touch of Iga...  :)

Japanese Ceramic Incense Boxes.. Kogo  :)  I like those..

Another "endless obsession", with the amount of them available..  :(

Hello guys..

It does look like Bamboo. Good call Steve/Steve.

Ear lugs.. "Mimi-something".. adds a lot to the looks.

I finally bought the DVD, "SEKIGAHARA".

Myself, I thought everything was good.

I was quite moved by the Movie's portrayal of Mitsunari Ishida.

Far from the  Ishida in JC's "SHOGUN". Which I loved too.

Hence, the music choice Steve..  :)

One of the critics said it could have been a trilogy.

I would have loved that.

You would have to be keen on all the people involved.

This is a fun way to get started..  :)   :

I just made this video on my "Japanese Ink Painting Techniques" on Chawans..

These/none are not "advertisements" /for sale videos.

They are for relaxation and appreciation of Japanese Art.  :)

Alton,

Fun instructional video!  Some lovely pieces in your new offering , the featured piece and that prunus decorated one are standouts....the Rinpa influence always appeals to me....music seems a perfect fit. Thanks for your continued efforts.
