Frank B Posted May 16, 2018 Report Posted May 16, 2018 I recently got a new pair of menuki from Curran. He was a pleasure to deal with(could not recommend him enough) and the menuki look much better in hand than in the photos. The theme is of galloping Kirin, the material is solid gold, and the school is Yamagawa(with no specified artist). Accompanying them are Hozon papers, a very similar pair is located in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Overall, Curran was amazing to work with and I am very lucky that he reached out to me about these menuki. If anyone has other menuki of the kirin theme I'd love to see them and compare to mine. Thank you https://www.mfa.org/collections/object/pair-of-menuki-in-the-form-of-galloping-kirin-9760 6 Quote

Curran Posted May 16, 2018 Report Posted May 16, 2018 As things come back from shinsa, I'll sell 5 to 8 before hurricane season. Frank caught me at the right time, and I'm glad to have dealt with him. Communication was good, and it is nice to sell within the USA for once. So much goes to Europe or Russia, sometimes China, these days. It is clear that I need to work on photography skills. 1 Quote

Vermithrax16 Posted May 17, 2018 Report Posted May 17, 2018 The level of detail work is mind blowing. Great pictures Frank. 1 Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted May 17, 2018 Report Posted May 17, 2018 Good photos Frank, BEAUTIFUL, now they look as they should. I'm surprised they did not attribute a maker, actually not, they often take an overly cautious position. Would a shot of the rear be too much to ask? Cheers, Quote
Curran Posted May 17, 2018 Report Posted May 17, 2018 If Frank submits to TH, perhaps he will get a specific maker. In years past, I rarely went for TH. I believe the price for TH was higher back then, and the $USD weaker. 1 Quote
Frank B Posted May 17, 2018 Author Report Posted May 17, 2018 Steven, I can take a photo of the reverse tonight. Yes, they did take caution in just saying Yamagawa. In the future when I send to TH I hope they narrow it down to an artist. 1 Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted May 17, 2018 Report Posted May 17, 2018 Thanks in advance for the back shots Frank, TH would be grand, these are excellent candidates. Curran, am I imagining things or are they actually less inclined to give attributions of maker these days. Quote
Frank B Posted May 17, 2018 Author Report Posted May 17, 2018 Yes, I agree, TH is not a far reach for these menuki, they have a lot going for them. Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted May 18, 2018 Report Posted May 18, 2018 Fine construction! Some gold menuki are surprisingly flimsy, these are well made. Those parts not seen speak volumes on quality. Cheers, 1 Quote
