Stephen Posted June 8, 2017 Report Posted June 8, 2017 My friend Jean shared a Shigetsugu with my other friend Joe this morning. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/22733-for-swordguy-joe/?do=findComment&comment=230229 Thought the koshirae was worth a look and some opinions. https://www.aoijapan.com/img/sword/2014/14209koshirae.jpg Myself i dont see it as a Navy outfit. I may be wrong, looks more of a presentation sword to me. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted June 8, 2017 Report Posted June 8, 2017 Yes, a special order. Ohmura has several examples like it. I was puzzled by the kyugunto style tassel. Maybe the tassels changed a little later than the shingunto release date? Quote
Stephen Posted June 8, 2017 Author Report Posted June 8, 2017 IDK i see it added, sure dont seem to fit to me. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted June 9, 2017 Report Posted June 9, 2017 IMO - Custom ordered shingunto mounts or a "dolled up" shingunto setup by an eager former owner. 1 Quote
lonely panet Posted June 9, 2017 Report Posted June 9, 2017 its very sexy. the 1912 german style knot is very odd, it was abolished with the introduction of the shingunto at 1934. so possibly a add on after the war???? but the fittings are hand made and very very interesting, and on the whole, the set is a great piece to own Quote
Jean Posted June 9, 2017 Report Posted June 9, 2017 Something will have to be done to the sword in Japan before having it exported, guess what? ... Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted June 9, 2017 Report Posted June 9, 2017 hmmmmmmmm pay for it That's the worst part! Quote
Stephen Posted June 9, 2017 Author Report Posted June 9, 2017 I hope its not removing the same on saya? Quote
Jean Posted June 9, 2017 Report Posted June 9, 2017 No but correcting the Kissaki/yokote. Someone has been at it with such enthousiasm that there are scratches passing the ko shinogi, the yokote is slightly curved on both sides and it looks like there are remnants of the former yokote. BTW, Lol concerning the oshigata and the yokote drawing Quote
Jean Posted June 9, 2017 Report Posted June 9, 2017 I have a NMB good friend who drew my attention on the Kissaki via a pm Quote
Stephen Posted June 9, 2017 Author Report Posted June 9, 2017 yes but really you made it sound like they would not release it ....it doesn't HAVE to be corrected if buyer is fine with it.....lol Quote
lucidorise Posted June 10, 2017 Report Posted June 10, 2017 I have seen some similarities as compared to my rikugun gunto koshirae. Quote
