Sly Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 Hi all ! After having submitted a wakizashi koshirae at NBTHK's shinsa, I received an hozon kantei sho recently, which I can hardly translate. I'm interested in having the translation of the description of koshirae (fuchi/kashira, tsuba, etc.). Could one of you help me guys ? Thanks in advance Sly Quote
Katsujinken Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 Markus Sesko provides excellent translation services for very reasonable fees. I can happily recommend him from personal experience. https://markussesko.com/translation-service/ Quote
Sly Posted March 22, 2017 Author Report Posted March 22, 2017 I don't need to translate the whole thing. My main concern is about what's written in the parenthesis. Besides, I'm interested by the description on the tsuba, for it is not signed. As a consequence, any indication of the metalworker is usefull... Quote
Jussi Ekholm Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 Here is a try at translation, more skilled folks will help on correcting it. 縁頭薄秋虫図銘寸竜子古川(花押)Fuchi - (describes the theme insects [mushi]?) Mei Sun Ryuu Shi Furukawa (Kao) 目貫雉子図 - Menuki - pheasant? 鐔 張飛図無銘 - Tsuba - Zhang Fei figure - Mumei 小柄 蘇東玻図 銘直悦(花押)- Kozuka - ??? Mei: Naoyoshi (Kao) さぐり花桐図 - ??? - 柄 白鮫着納戸色糸片捻撮巻 - Tsuka - white same kata-hinerimaki with x-color ito 1 Quote
Sly Posted March 22, 2017 Author Report Posted March 22, 2017 Well done Jussi ! Thank you very much ! That's it ! Menuki are indeed pheasant theme, and fuchi/kashira are insects theme as well ! There's also an pawlonia flower on the saya, so maybe it is mentionned on the kanteisho too. Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 The phrase さぐり花桐図 does indeed mention 'drawing of paulownia flower. John Quote
Shugyosha Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 To add to Jussi's contribution, I have: F&K: 薄秋虫図 Japanese pampas grass and autumn insect theme. Kodzuka: 蘇東坡 A Google of these kanji came back with "Sun Dong Po" - apparently a Chinese poet and statesman. Not sure that this is correct but it seems a possibility given the tsuba theme. Quote
