Cheezy....I know

Here's another opportunity for me.  Don't know who or what it is.  Owner believes the blade is old but brought back from WW2 in officer mounts.  He would like $1000 for it.  Worthy? He is going to send me a full length photo.

Hi Jason

Do you a picture of the complete nakago?

I cant read the script which appears to be the chippy WWII type mei/date seen on late non traditinally made blades. My concern is it may not even be that.

If it is authentic it does not predate the war and is likely a mass produced emergency issue blade.

More images would help and someone better at it than I am may be able to translate the kanji.

good luck

I don't want to offend the guy.  He knew the vet who brought it back quite well.  He said it was brought back from Iwo Jima.  If he has any way of providing provenance to that claim, then I'd be willing to make him a decent offer.

These mounts almost always house Showato. Maybe 98% of the time.
Dunno why these are so undervalued, but they fetch the least of all the military mounts. Maybe $750? Goodness knows why an NCO fetches double or triple, these are at least made by a smith. But that's the vagaries of militaria collecting.
