jesse Posted July 26, 2015 Report Posted July 26, 2015 Guys - I have one more that I need assistance on. Don't really know much about the blade except what my fathers friend told me (nothing helpful, just very colorful). He also showed me the saya and tsuka and they each had the same characters written. Only writing was on the omote side. Please let me know if the attachments are readable or not. Warm regards, Jesse Quote
jesse Posted July 27, 2015 Author Report Posted July 27, 2015 Here is a more readable picture, at least I hope it is. Warm regards, Jesse Quote
Nobody Posted July 28, 2015 Report Posted July 28, 2015 The writing on the saya seems to be an address and a family name. 廣島市宇品町神田通四丁目 在所 清見 Hiroshima-shi, Ujina-cho, Kandadori 4-chome, zaisho, Kiyomi (reading?) 1 Quote
jesse Posted July 28, 2015 Author Report Posted July 28, 2015 Mr. Moriyama, Can you point out the family name for me? I believe the family name should be modern (WWII) as this seems to be an old family blade that the soldier took to war with him. The saya and tsuka state the exact same thing. It could be a way for the blade to get back to the family in the case of death. Please correct me if I am wrong here as I am still learning (and will be for the rest of my life). SteveM Posted August 20, 2015 Report Posted August 20, 2015 Looking through some old maps and found where Ujina-cho, Kanda-dori 4-chome would have been. Thought Jesse might be interested. Alas, the address system has changed, and that old address is no longer valid. Today it would be close to where Motoujinaguchi Station is. The map is from 1940. I've put a yellow circle where Kanda-dori 4-chome would be. Quote
jesse Posted August 25, 2015 Author Report Posted August 25, 2015 Steve - Thank you so much for this. I try to collect all of the background information possible and the story that this sword is beginning to tell is awesome. Again, thanks for the extended effort. If our paths ever cross the drinks are on me. Jesse 1 Quote
